Wire to use to redo engine compartment? gooyferret 10-01-2004, 06:17 PM
Im redoing the wiring in the engine compartment of a 1959 beetle with the orginal 1200cc as far to my knowledge it hasnt been converted to a 12v system. In my earlier thread i asked how to tell if i have a 12v conversion already done i just bought the car and it had an engine fire and the inside of the engine compartment is totaled. What kind of wire should i use to redo the wiring and where can i get it at? Im looking on doing this as cheap as possible so i dont wanna have to get a complete rear wire harness i just want to know what gauge wire i should use and on what wires??? If anyone could help me out that would be awesome! Thanks boschmann 10-02-2004, 12:22 PM Any automotive wire will do, copper braided. Most of the wiring can be done in 12 or 14 gauge, but the generator & regulator to battary is probably 6 or 8 gauge wire. gooyferret 10-10-2004, 08:11 PM Does anyone know where i can find a diagram of wiring for the color and exact gauge of wire to use anywhere.....any books or sites would be great! boschmann 10-11-2004, 02:12 PM I believe all the manuals will provide that info; Bentley, Haynes, Clymer....
