Strengthing Internalscivicguy167 09-29-2004, 07:11 PM hey i have a 96 civic ex and putting my turbo in soon. Ive been thinking about this alot and decided to go ahead and stregthen internals also so i can turn the boost up more. What would be good parts to install in my d16? I was thinking: Camshafts Camgears Pistons what else should i condider? How much should i be able to push with these new engine parts? CivicSpoon 09-29-2004, 07:56 PM I'd add connecting rods to that list, before camshaft and cam gear. If you don't then that's what your weak link is going to be with the motor. After that you'll just have to sorry about valve float (upgraded valvetrain when you get the cam will help prevent this) and of course detonation. Basically detonation would be the only thing from boosting too high. The only way to know how much you can push it is to get a professional to tune the car for you and they will tell you how much is safe to boost. That's just real real basic info, if you want more better indepth info I'd suggest checking out www.homemadeturbo.com (http://www.homemadeturbo.com) and www.turbod16.com (http://www.turbod16.com) messageboards. Both sites have a ton of info and will most likely be more helpful than info you'll get here (seeing as they specialize in d16 turbo aplications). dat1laosguy 09-29-2004, 08:51 PM block guard and if you can afford it sleeves boost as much as you want GScivic7 09-29-2004, 10:16 PM I agree with Civicspoon except the cam gear part. It'll be nice to be able to adjust the timing even without an aftermarket cam when you take your car in to be tuned. 97CivicX 09-29-2004, 11:06 PM cam shafts and cam gears do not strengthen your internals. pistons, rods, and sleeves are what strengthen your internals 95dxcivic 09-29-2004, 11:36 PM You should also think about a head gasket. Oh and BTW, how much does it cost to sleeve a block. GScivic7 09-30-2004, 03:12 AM I know darton sleeves go for about $50 a piece at www.raceeng.com and I have been told by a shop that you can't really just remove your old sleeves. They have to grind them away and then put in the new sleeves so I'm guessing it's going to cost a pretty penny for labor. Civic_D16Y5 09-30-2004, 04:29 PM how about duct tape your old sleeves? civicguy167 09-30-2004, 05:58 PM Alrighty, heres my parts list i came up with: Darton Sleeves (DARTON FLANGED SLEEVE:D16-75mm) Race Engineering Block Guards Eagle Rods (EAGLE ROD KIT:HONDA D16) Wiseco Piston Kit (WIS D16Y8:75.5mm-8.8:1/RINGS*) Anything else i should tack on there? Thanks for everyones help mellowboy 09-30-2004, 06:51 PM Wiseco pistons are excellent choice :) That seems about it. Well you definitely need to upgrade your fuel. Fuel pump, fuel injectors (dsm 450cc injectors which are cheap). You dont need an aftermarket cam. Unless you want to run rich. GScivic7 09-30-2004, 07:59 PM you don't need the block guard if you are getting sleeves, but the rest of it looks good. 97CivicX 10-01-2004, 03:36 PM just a question, what psi are you planning to run on all this civicguy167 10-01-2004, 07:33 PM iwas hoping to run 10-15psi daily but then 20 or more for racing but im not sure if it can handle that im accully pretty curious to know what a psi for this setup would be??? GScivic7 10-01-2004, 07:51 PM 10-15 for daily is crazy...I would set it more at like 7-10 daily and up to 15-20 for racing with 8.8:1 compression pistons and the Darton flanged sleeves, which I believe are supposed to be able to handle like 20-25 psi or something like that, you should be able to run some crazy ass boost at the track. What turbo or kit are you planning on running with all this? civicguy167 10-01-2004, 08:56 PM the turbo kit im gonna build myself i was thinkin: t3/ .42.48 Turbo intercooler 440cc injectors AFC hack Greddy PROFEC B SPEC II electronic boost controller blitz dd (BOV) just to name a few parts..... How much horsepower would you estimate me getting with my whole setup running about 19-20psi at the track??? civicguy167 10-01-2004, 09:01 PM http://www.importperformanceparts.net/imports/pek-honda.html Is this a good deal? it's $900 and comes with it looks like all the internal stregthening parts i need. It comes with Complete Gasket Set Cometic Head Gasket WISECO Forged Pistons (75.5mm bore and 8.5-9.0:1 comp ratio) ROSS Stock Bore 75mm Pistons available (add $100 to kit price) Performance Rings Performance Wrist Pins TOGA HP Main Bearings TOGA HP Rod Bearings Thrust Washers Timing Belt Expansion Plugs GScivic7 10-01-2004, 09:56 PM the turbo kit im gonna build myself i was thinkin: t3/ .42.48 Turbo intercooler 440cc injectors AFC hack Greddy PROFEC B SPEC II electronic boost controller blitz dd (BOV) just to name a few parts..... How much horsepower would you estimate me getting with my whole setup running about 19-20psi at the track??? there is no way in hell I would recommend running above 10 psi using the hack. You're going to have to save your money and get some real fuel management like Hondata or something. civicguy167 10-01-2004, 10:22 PM what about the APEXi Super AFC II. What are some options that i could go with? Hondata seems to be the most popular to go with GScivic7 10-01-2004, 11:19 PM whether you use a VAFC or SAFC it doesn't really matter. All you're doing is tricking the computer into not seeing boost. Save your money and go with Hondata. Just like it says on their site, nothing runs a Honda better than a Honda chip vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
