should I change it?lalojamesliz 09-29-2004, 03:22 PM i have a new tacoma with 1800 miles and im taking a nice long 1100 mile trip on the 1st of october, i heard i should change my oil and filter because the break in shavings from the motor could shorten the life of my motor. is this true? should i change the oil ? if yes what type? (reg. or synthetic) thanks in advance. truckpoor 09-29-2004, 04:54 PM I would change it, but not with synthetic. I'd put about 5000 miles on it before switching to synthetic. Vroom2 09-29-2004, 06:11 PM Ditto. Not sure whether or not it's a myth, but since I'm superstitious I subscribe to it. :) For what it's worth, here's my routine for oil changes... @ 1,000 miles: change oil & filter (Valvoline to vehicle spec - i.e. 5w-30 and a K&N filter) Repeat @ 4,000 and 7,000 miles. @ 10,000 miles: change oil & filter, using Mobil1 (again to spec) and a K&N filter. Repeat every 5,000 miles. Truckpoor - is that a shot of my man, Lute Olson in your avatar? Take care, Jerry lalojamesliz 09-29-2004, 09:20 PM thanks and what non synthetic oil and filter do you guys recomend? i just got my amsoil air filter today along with the ....series 2000 75w-90 gear lube for my diff. it was expensive oil but i hear its worth it. do you guys think i should also wait until 5000 miles to switch my diff. oil to my amsoil synthetic? thanks again. wrigley123 09-30-2004, 06:08 AM Purolator filters......whatever major oil is on sale! Mike truckpoor 09-30-2004, 01:20 PM Mobil1 is the only thing I've heard anything about, so I can't really say what type. And Jerry, yes that is a shot of OUR man Lute. Watch out this year, they're going to be tough. Hopefully he can get those bums to play some defense. jla0317 10-03-2004, 03:13 PM valveline durablend its a synthetic blend your truck should do fine with it and it will ease the process when you go full synthetic vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
