99 silverado rear end "ting" clicking???sierra99 09-29-2004, 09:37 AM i have a 99 silverado with 87,000 miles. I have recently noticed that when I put the truck in reverse, I hear a skweak from what seems like the rear end, It sounds like the tire is rubbing in the same spot, but it is not rubbing at all. I have new tires on it but have never changed anything else other than oil and transmission fluid. Lately, I have noticed that when I get over 90 MPr it vibrates like it is unballanced, but everything is ok and balanced, just at speeds over 90 MPH. a few weeks ago, I never had this problem with the vibration over 90 MPH. Also I have noticed a "ting" sound from the rear. This sounds almost like a bad u joint. I look underneath and move the driveshaft and I feel no play in the u joint. This happens very rarely, but it still does happen. Also, when the truck is not warmed up, When I ht my first stop sign, about a 1/4 mile down from my home. It seems like the brakes are still engaged for a second. I feel some sort of brake holding. but after that is never comes back. Actualy it only does it at that stop sign. I was going to replace both ujoints. can anybody suggest where to get a good ujoint and what brand is going to last for a long time? Thanks for the info sierra99 09-29-2004, 09:41 AM Sorry, I forgrot to add this to my post above....1999 silverado 71 ext cab LT..I have replaced the front shocks with Billstien" and tires with Michelin LTX if this helps at all.... jumpingjack66 09-29-2004, 12:51 PM The fatory joints seem to seeze insted of getting loose, everything you just described happend to me and others here on the forum. mine occured at 55000. tthe dealer installed greasable joints on mine for about 160.00. If your going to doit yourself i would get them from napa. If your a seriuos 4wheeler you may want to stay with solid joints but if you just drive street greasable arew fine and with proper care you can make them last forever. As far as your breaks go if your abs pump is triggering at that stop sign it may be that your hubs are dirty and the sensores need to be cleaned. the is a tsb on this procedure. maybe someone can give you the info or you can search the threads for it this subject comes up often. sierra99 09-29-2004, 05:35 PM I have just went to napa and purchased 2 u joints and will se if that helps...I will kep u informed....I have one for each end of the drive shaft sierra99 09-30-2004, 05:50 PM yup it was the front u joint on the rear drive shaft. i did replace both and the ting went away, along with the vibration and the tire rub sound from underneath. the u joint was trashed, I have no idea how it stayred together this long jumpingjack66 09-30-2004, 11:07 PM good to hear i know i was relieved cause that rear diff is major money to fix..
