1987 toyota supra turboSkyline_R32_Canada 09-27-2004, 07:30 PM Hi, i usually dont post here but figured since you're all the experts on supras, i thought to myself why not ask... i'm thinking of purchasing a 1987 supra tubo for mostly performance rather than looks. I was wondering what it would take (money and part wise) to get it into the low 14-high 13 seconds considering it already runs 15 flat stock. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could post some links regarding performance mods for this gen. of supras and some body kits as well . Thanks for your time and i hope to hear from the experts! 7M > V8 09-28-2004, 10:21 AM If you go to buy an 87T take the hose off that connects to the turbo inlet and check the turbo shaft for play and compressor fan for cracks. The one on my 87T had shaft play and a screwed fan, still would build boost, but dude dropped the price $300 for me. Lexus AFM, 550cc injectors, upgrade fuel pump, a K&N, new IC system, high flow turbo elbow/exhaust, and a boost controller[general maintenance ofcourse, and may need a FPR]...13's all day untill you blow a head gasket. suprastore.com suprasport.com jblmk3.com ebay.com ps. Please don't kill the natural beauty of it with an evo kit or something =\ Makes it look like that girl with too much make-up on. TEIN coilovers would be a much nicer investment than a $1000 bodykit..you could tuck the tires in so sweet. Valakin 10-15-2004, 11:05 PM I used to have one... as much as a 17 year old can have his dads car... their great but B E W A R E... do this as a check for you self. Try to make sure the car has been sitting off for a good day. Then start it and let it run for about 30 seconds. Shut her down and pop the radiator cap. If you get a good force and spurt of water out of there when you do, who ever is selling it is mostlikely going to be pissed. It has come to my attention that most people sell the MKIII's for about 3.5 to 4.5 for one reason... thats what the blue book is on them. Well that and the fact that toyota is going to charge them up to 2,100-2,700 to change that head gasket and all the valves. Why toyota felt it would be good to have that head and engine block set up I don't know. But beware of any MKIII, they will mostlikely need the head gasket changed. Something about metal ionization between the aluminium head and steel engine block. All the have to do is sit for a few months to start the process and then its all down hill. And if the stupid owner doesn't know about the problem with the head gaskets on them then you might be looking at a new head and valve replacement. Do know this. If you do need to have this done to the car, NAPA only charges 450 for a new head and head gasket kit... or atleast that is what they quoted me at last year. So if you know how to get that air intake off of there and have the place to do it you looking at about 500 to get it done your self. Other wise a Toyota Deallership is going to rape you over half of what the cars blue book is on it. Valakin 10-15-2004, 11:07 PM and if you really want some good ideas... talk to this guy. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/463369 I would love to know half of the TRD parts he has on that car. jcrapps 10-18-2004, 06:36 PM join http://www.supraforums.com and be done with it.
