2000 Venture Wierd Dash Problem

I have a 2000 Venture and every so often while driving, all the dash lights come on and all the guages, including the speedometer, drop to 0, about 1 second later everything goes back to normal. It doesn't seem to be causing any problems other than freaking my wife out everytime it happens. Anyone else seen this problem?

sounds like a bad BCM (body control module). It controls most of your guages and instrument panel readouts among other functions.. It's a small box under the passenger side of the dash next to the glove box. They range in price depending on if you have keyless entry or not.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

I also have a 2000 Venture that has this exact same problem. I have tried a couple of different mechanics who were not able to fix the problem. Did you try the new BCM and did it work. What was the cost to repair it?

I had same 'weird dash' problem simultaneously with the intermittent electrical start issues described in other posts where one time it starts and the next it acts like a dead battery but it will jump start A-OK. I solved the 'weird dash' problem by disconnecting the battery pos cable (to relay box above battery) but now a 1000 miles later I still have the intermittent electrical start issue, but have not had the 'weird dash' repeat.

There is a TSB that says to check for corrosion of a wire bundle/harness under the driver's seat that sometimes gets wet and immediately corrodes--but that was not my case...

Update--After new battery/starter--2 weeks same problem--took it to Chevy Dealer, who thought it was a bad (new) starter or ignition switch but then found it was a loose wire to starter connection AS WELL AS corrosion in between the battery cable bolts and the connection cover over the bolts. Even though I had cleaned the wall of the battery and the bolt threads, there was poor continuity from bolt to cable... Has worked perfect for 3 weeks and 30 starts.
