2000 Venture Fuel Problem

Hi,

I am having a problem with my 2000 Chevy Venture. Here are the details of the problem.

In the past month the check engine light came on and the vehicle was having problems idling. It would chug along, but would run fine once it was going about 20+ miles per hour. I took it to a mechanic that said it was missing and needed a tune up. We paid to get a tune up and by the time I got home the check engine light was back on and the problem was occuring again. My wife then decided to put higher octane gas in it and she filled it up twice with 89 octane vs 87. The van seemed to respond well to this as it started running fine for about 3 or 4 days. On the fourth day, it just stalled while I was driving it at about 45mph. I pulled over and could not get it started. (In the past I had a similar problem and changing the fuel filter fixed it). I changed the fuel filter and after a few attempts the van started and I began to drive it home. It ran fine and idled fine, but I stopped to put some gas in it and it would not start back up. At this time, I sprayed some starting fluid into it and the engine started but died immediately. I tried this a few times and everytime the engine would start, but would die a couple of seconds later. At this time, the only other thing I can think of that might be the problem is the fuel pump. Before replacing the fuel pump (which is a lot of work and about $260 part replacement) I would like to know if anyone else has any ideas. :banghead:

Thank you for any responses, and thanks to the admins for this great forum.

Moses.

I searched the forums and found a similar problem where GMerlin (sp) suggested that the fuel pybass plug might be loose/wet. I reseated the plug and everythig seems to be working fine. Thanks GMerlin!!
