High Idleing... how do i turn it down?1992eclipseGS 09-26-2004, 02:01 AM My Car was Idling around 2000 rpms till i did a tune up... Now it Idles between 1000 and 2000 rpm... thats not normal is it?? i thought it was suppose to idle at like 1000rpm.. It constantly goes up then down.. like i'm slightly revving it when i'm not... kjewer1 09-26-2004, 02:04 AM First check to see if the cable is too tight. If its borderline, as hte motor warms up the cable gets tighter and rasies idle. If that check out ok, you can try turning down the BISS on the front of the throttle body (under a rubber plug, if it hasnt been lost). But the BISS is NOT there to set idle speed, its to center the ISC. And doing that takes a little more typing on my part ;) YOu might be able to find a thread where I've explained it in the past. 1992eclipseGS 09-26-2004, 02:16 AM First check to see if the cable is too tight. And how do I check the cabe?? And what cable is it that i check?? sorry man but i'm a dumbass when it comes to cars.. this is only my second car.. my first car was a shit box neon that got me from A to B.. but i really love my Eclipse... want to take care of it as best as i can... thanks for the help. kjewer1 09-26-2004, 02:19 AM You just have to take a look around the car. Dont be afraid to touch it and poke around. The cable is attached at the back of the intake manifold (by the firewall) and the end connects to the throttle plate. As you step on the gas, that cable is pulled, opening the throttle body. There is a bit of the inner cable that is exposed, give it a wiggle and see that it has some slack. Check when the motor is warm too. IF not, I can explain how to adjust it. Just go take a look, you'll see what I'm talking about once you get your eyeball in there. :) 1992eclipseGS 09-26-2004, 02:32 AM ooohhh... Yea i know exactly what you talking about... and i do believe that wire is a little tight... there's no looseness at all.. kjewer1 09-26-2004, 02:39 AM If you are correct, here is the procedure for adjusting it. There are MANY ways to do it, this is by far the best that I have been able to come up with. To avoid another novel, I'll leave out the explanation why. Loosen the throttle cable bracket (this is where the adjustment is done. Have a friend hold the gas pedal to the floor. With one hand pull the cable (the main outer jacket part, that the bracket is attached to. Not the inner cable) until the throttle is open completely against the stop. Pull hard. With the other hand tighten the bolts that hold the bracket to the manifold. This will give you maximum slack at idle, while still opening the throttle completely when the pedal is floored. 1992eclipseGS 09-26-2004, 03:11 AM If you are correct, here is the procedure for adjusting it.
