2000 Malibu Dies! Help! Reaadd!!91celicaFB 09-26-2004, 01:26 AM Hey, i just bought a 2000 malibu ls with 130,000 miles on it. I drove it home, about 40-50 miles on the highway. It had 1/2 tank of gas in it at the time. I drove it for about another 40 miles around the city in one day. And it was getting a little less than a 1/4 of a tank. Without any warning lights or anything, the car just dies crusing at 40 mph. The batt light was on and somthing else. I thought it was in need of gas so i got a tankful and it brought up the gauge to almost half a tank. BUT THE CAR WILL NOT GET ANY GAS OR FIRE UP! The starter will just spin but no fire. Not even close. I just bought this malibu and its very clean, no history or anything. And no, i cant take it back to where i got it. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY THE MOTOR'S NOT GETTING ANY FUEL??? HELLLLLPPPPPPPPP I gotta fix it or tow it off somwhere! PLease please somone help! The battery and all work fine but the engine wont fire up. It seems like there is NO fuel reaching the engine. Thanks!!!! bearcatdon 09-26-2004, 09:51 AM A motor needs fuel, air and spark to run. Pull your air filter to give max air, pull a plug to check for a nice clean spark and have someone listen for the fuel pump to kick in when the key is originally turned (not cranking). If everything looks ok, do you smell fuel in the engine compartment, are your plugs getting wet with fuel? If no, try spraying some starting fluid down the throttle body. If that works I would look at the fuel filter. If still nothing you may have a bad crank sensor. 91celicaFB 09-26-2004, 05:34 PM hey,, i had my dad change the plugs while i was away at work. He could only change 3 out of 6 cuz he couldnt reach back. But anyways, he said it ran for a mile or so only to bog back down and die. I dont think the fuel was an issue. I dont know what is though. Maybe i gotta change the other 3. I will be sure to take sum starter fluid spray with me though. Thanks! Someone helP!Pp richtazz 09-27-2004, 04:08 PM change those rear plugs. The previous owner was probably too lazy to change them, and they are burnt up. I see this far too often in transverse mounted V-6's gapboi210 09-27-2004, 06:18 PM I did my plugs and it wasn't that hard. You just have to feel for them (make sure the motor is cool!) remember that they are in there at an angle. barry505 09-27-2004, 08:44 PM Plugs usually won't make it quit running, especially when it was running fine before. The most common problem with modern cars is fuel pump/fuel filter. The best way to check it is with a fuel pressure gauge. If you don't have one, try changing the fuel filter. They should be changed every 30,000 miles, but are often neglected. The most common reason fuel pumps go out is because the fuel filter gets plugged. If you check to see if you can hear the fuel pump is running with the ignition on/engine off, keep in mind that the pump will only run 2 seconds. You have to turn the key off for 10 seconds before checking it again. 91celicaFB 09-29-2004, 12:37 PM Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions as i am new into the american produced cars. Would somone happen to know where the fuel filter is?? It has been running fine recently but i still am a little worried that it might have been somthing other than the plugs or wires. The fuel filter maybe it cuz it bogged the hell down at 40mph. And i guess i just flodded it afterwards... but i dont get why it cranked right up after changing those 3 plugs. So can somone tell me where the fuel filter is so i can change them. By the way, imma get those other 3 changed at a shop,,, just to see how its done and whats required so i can doit next time ;) thanksss!! 91celicaFB 09-29-2004, 12:38 PM Oh yea, and i put a full tanks of premium gas to help clean. after 20 miles i noticed a good bit was gone. Is it that i have been usta the 4banger toyotas or does this car guzzle gas!? should i let it run low again?? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
