1st gens able to use DSMlink!!!EclipseRST 09-25-2004, 07:57 AM well after looking around awhile i came apon this... a harness that allows you to run DSMlink in a 1st gen! here is the link just incase anyone wants to run dsmlink in their 1st gen but didnt know they could! :iceslolan http://www.dsmtuners.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3801 kjewer1 09-25-2004, 03:55 PM Hal LAndry came up with that about a year ago. Tom Dorris just mentioned though that he thinks the 1g version of DSMlink will be released in 4 weeks anyway, so the above method (I'm assuming the adapter harness to run a 2g ECU?) is necessary anymore. Even better. :D And I heard that the 1g version has some fancy new feature that the 2g version wont have until its next update! JoeWagon 09-25-2004, 04:46 PM A few of these have been on the DSMtuners classifieds before, but with Hal's 1g test version being so recent, I wouldn't doubt that it actually will be out in 4 weeks. scottsee 09-25-2004, 11:20 PM fancy new features???? kjewer1 09-26-2004, 02:02 AM I'm not sure exactly what is new. On the DSMlink forums, tom and dave maintain a pair of threads, "minor enhancments" and "major enhancments." I'm assuming they got some of these into the 1G version, since they still can... I dont think we'll see a V3 for the 2g guys for another year or so... Just like with V2 though, some real slick features being considered :) DSMlink just keeps getting better with age. And combine that with constant tech support from tom and dave and all the other link users, unbeatable. :teary eyed: EclipseRST 09-26-2004, 06:46 AM LMAO... thats touching kevin! so how does it compare to AEM EMS? or should i say, will it ever compare to EMS? i'm still deciding on what i want to run, EMS or DSMlink... EMS or DSMlink... tough decision! anyways how do they do the upgrades? are they free if you already have DSMlink? i was planning on getting it last year at about this time but that fell thru since i got the GST so now that the GST is running good and i have no problems with that, time to experiment a littel! most of the stuff that will be added right now will not stay in the car when i sell it this winter! it will then be transfered over to the spyder that i get, unless i decide to say fuck that idea, too much work ( i'm lazy! ) then i might just go out and buy a GSX and put a shit load of money into it... who knows, maybe i'll do both! fuck i;m drunk... i gess i'll stop my rambleing now and go to bed so you guys have a wonder ful night! peace~ jake kjewer1 09-26-2004, 01:20 PM Now the the AEMs seem to be lasting for more than a couple weeks and most poeple seem pretty happy with them, they are certainly an option. You have to have a SERIOUS grasp on how engine managment works to run it safely though. DSMlink takes care of all the nitty gritty stuff (its still based on the stock ECU) so you dont have to ass around with ISC tables for a week before it will run :D I'm sure I Will continue to run DSMlink as long as I own the car. If I tried the AEM it would just be for the challenge and the learning experience. I have enough trouble as it is for now though  The upgrades for DSMlink arent free, but very cheap. IIRC, the last one was 50 bucks and it was about a 1 week turnaround. I pissed and moaned about it for a long time before I did it, but tom and dave really had a nice system going for that. With DSMlink, I Can say "hey, I want to be able to hold the ISC at the center of its travel so I can set the BISS properly." And what do you know, in V2 thats how I set the biss. Can you do that with AEM? PRobably not. Its pretty comprehensive though since its a full standalone. But I like the personal support you get from DSMlink. JoeWagon 09-26-2004, 06:28 PM Check out the AEM forums and search for 'DSMlink". You'll get a fair amount of comparisons and people concerned about streetability. Personally, DSMlink is so far ahead of an AFC/datalogger than its hard to believe anyone would want more on a street car. On the other hand, I couldn't find any AEM threads on the DSMlink forums. People seem to be pretty dedicated. kjewer1 09-26-2004, 10:59 PM There is one there now, "worth upgrading?" or something similar. Most poeple with DSMlink just dont see enough of an advantage with the EMS to make the swap. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
