Car's fallin apart on me =\KenOhki2112 09-22-2004, 10:38 PM As some of you know, for the last 3 weeks I've been taking my battery out of my car every night, and charging it up in my house because the alternator is shot or unpluged or something.. Any way today my driverside power window broke, it was acting funny and slipping when it was rolling up, so I got out opened the door and pushed the window down lightly, it fell all the way into the door and it seems I broke what ever weakend connection was hooking it up to the motor, the motors fine I can hear it whirring around.. Any idea if I could fix this if I could even get in there. Grenyaer 09-22-2004, 10:45 PM Shouldn't be tough to get in there dude, just pull off the door panel. If you get in there and find it's not something easy to fix, PM me and I'll tell you what the FSM says to do. I'd post in here but it's got like a big ass diagram and all this electrical madness that I dont care to understand. Suislide 09-23-2004, 12:48 AM trust me, the power window motor is not fun to try to fix. if you end up having to replace it...oy...good luck doing it yourself. when you take off the door panel, the door shell has all this cross-bracing in front of the motor, it's a real bitch to get at. have fun! Broke_as_**** 09-23-2004, 01:59 AM Any way today my driverside power window broke, it was acting funny and slipping when it was rolling up, so I got out opened the door and pushed the window down lightly, it fell all the way into the door and it seems I broke what ever weakend connection was hooking it up to the motor, the motors fine I can hear it whirring around.. If you pull the interior panel off the door, easy, just pull the outside edge away and up with a screw driver or something, then there is just one screw where it molds into the dash. Anyway, if you look in there you'll see a gear set and some various sliders and stops. You'll also see, if the window is all the way down, look through the top and you'll see a little spool and a thin metal wire. That wire holds the back end of the window level as the motor only pushes the front up. When that breaks, the motor is trying to push the whole window up from just the front and it becomes wedged in there. Also the wire can get caught in the gears and grease from the loose wire can get on the rollers. As for a fix, either you have to pull the entire assembly out to replace the broken wire or find another door. Thats a bitch ain't it? Happened to my car last week. I still am driving around with the door panel off (just not cool) and haven't raised or lowered it since. I was half considering just taking a torch to the inside metal panel and making enough holes to get at it while its still in the door. KenOhki2112 09-23-2004, 02:30 AM The motor is fine I think, it sounds normal when I flip the swich, and it wasn't moving around irregulary, the problem is what ever holds the window up is broken, I cannot roll my window up at all which sucks because it's starting to rain down here. When it broke, I heard to loud bangs, much like what you should expect if some one were throwing rocks at you on the freeway. I would be satisfyed if I could open it up and just rig it so the window is rolled up all the way for now. (I've taken the interior door thing off to replace the speaker before) Broke_as_**** 09-23-2004, 02:54 AM :D Open her up, pull the window up by hand and wedge a stick under it. Grenyaer 09-23-2004, 11:44 AM do it up mad max style KenOhki2112 09-23-2004, 09:41 PM Well I took the door apart this morning, I see the gears, they run smothly, the motor works, but the cable has a lot of slack in it (it's not broken as far as I can tell) I couldn't figure out exactly what was broken, so for now I pulled the window all the way up and tied a thick shoelace to the bottom metal supports on the window, to the part of the door that stops the window from going up once it's all the way up. I'm thinking probably the cable slipped off of one of the pullys or something, or that one of them is broken. The tracks are fine also, the window slides up and down easly and smoothly. vsiev 09-24-2004, 09:45 AM most likely it is the plastic guide that guides the metal string....they usually break real easy cause it being plastic....shouldn't be hard since you know the motor works. it is the string that is the problem. it is easy to pull the motor assy out. Just unbolt like 4 bolts i think and pull it out, you have to unbolt the window glass first and get that out, then the motor assy. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
