passlock problems

I have a 99 Olds Intrigue with the typical passlock problems. I just paid 600$ for a new ignition. I spoke with GM and they said there is nothing they can do to help me out. I did find a site that everyone with a passlock problem should register with. Maybe they can help.
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ If enough people complain maybe GM will fess up to their problem. This is the National Highway and Transportation Board. I feel that this no start problem is a definite safety concern. Unsafe neibourhoods, Life and death situations etc. Every one with this problem please register with this site. Lets geter done.

Hi
could you elaborate on the passlock problem? I am not familiar with it and have not yet experienced it.

Thanks

the passlock system is a theft deterrant system that shuts off the fuel supply when anything but the correct key is used. In my intrigue along with many others it seems the security light comes on for no reason and then some time in the very near future she wont start. Doesnt even turn over just click. If you wait 10 or 15 min it starts right up. They claim it is always a faulty ignition switch and or the ignition cylinder. If you read differant gm threads you will see this problem occurs to just about teir whole line of vehicles. I talked to GM and they say there is nothing they can or will do about it. That is total BS to me. That is why I am going after them a differant way. There should be a recall and reimbursement to all with this system in their cars.

Has anyone out there replaced their ignition switch themselves? The Chiltons and Alldata guides tell you to disconnect the electrical connectors but I can't even see them, let alone disconnect them after removing all the I/P parts they say to remove!! Argghhhh!!!! :banghead:

I found out simple way to disable the passlock1 prmanently. I did it on my Cavalier 96 and it works so far.
You can use it if ocasionally you are still able to start your car. All you need to do is to start the car (with your semidefective passlock sensor), and then disconnect the three wires plug (wires that run from the lock cylinder to the instrument panel) from the instrument panel while engine is running.
Engine will start the next time without any passlock "authorization", but "theft system'" light will stay on. If you do not like it, you can remove LED from the instrument cluster board.
I am not shure if the disablement will work after battery gets disconnected. Possible, that you may repeat it all over.
