Pictures and questions of Z31DBSS_Gohan 09-21-2004, 01:32 AM Ok, heres my pictures of my new Z31, I payed a Grand for it, And I think she looks pretty good... she started a coolant leak I cant figure out where came from the night I got her... thats progressivly gotten worse, and I have no idea where its comming from, but I really wanna find out. So heres some pictures... and questions I have about some engine components... And Id appreciate any and all comments about the car, think it was worth what I payed for it? Oh, and sorry about the low quality pics, but I took them with my phone. Sorry I didnt put the hood down... I dont have working lifts, so Im using an umbrella to keep the hood open. (Only thing I could find with rounded out ends that wouldent scratch anything.) http://www.geocities.com/soldieraf/images/Z1.jpg http://www.geocities.com/soldieraf/images/Z2.jpg The engine... And my questions.... http://www.geocities.com/soldieraf/images/Z31engine.jpg This is an upside down photo of where everything seems to be draining to. At least my little bucket catches all the coolant nicely from here.... http://www.geocities.com/soldieraf/images/leaky1.jpg Oil leak anyone? What could this be caused from? http://www.geocities.com/soldieraf/images/valvyleak.jpg This is where most of the coolant leaking from the front of the engine is dripping down to, but as youll see below on the thing that I dont know what is, that I ask what is... Object A... Its also covered in coolant. http://www.geocities.com/soldieraf/images/behindcrank.jpg Whats this??? Its like, right infront of the tranny, on the passanger side, beside the oil pan. http://www.geocities.com/soldieraf/images/leaky4.jpg What is this??? (Object A) http://www.geocities.com/soldieraf/images/roundy.jpg My Interior... http://www.geocities.com/soldieraf/images/dash.jpg http://www.geocities.com/soldieraf/images/dash2.jpg http://www.geocities.com/soldieraf/images/Zinterior1.jpg 1986 300ZX N/A With 157000 miles on her. RX_speed 09-21-2004, 01:43 AM none of your picture are working DBSS_Gohan 09-21-2004, 01:48 AM can you see them now? RX_speed 09-21-2004, 01:49 AM now they work the oil leak could simply be your valve cover gaskets needing replacement DBSS_Gohan 09-21-2004, 01:51 AM I changed the adresses on all of them. Tell me if there are any more problems with them. So what do you think? k3smostwanted 09-21-2004, 11:16 AM i cant really see the pics very well but object a, the thing with a wire bundle connected to it looks like some kind of solenoid or pump or motor of some kind. DBSS_Gohan 09-21-2004, 11:18 AM I can try to take new picturs with my digital camera, they will be better quality, but the sizes are MUCH bigger.... These dont take as much memory. k3smostwanted 09-21-2004, 11:26 AM yeah i understand. if longlivethez gets on here he might be able to point out some things. BTW: car looks good. it looks like you got a pretty good deal on it. looks clean. now, just get these few little mechanical problems fixed you will be in business. DBSS_Gohan 09-21-2004, 12:56 PM ty, yeah, Just wanna get everything back into perfect OEM specs, and then... Its time to mod... heheh... Im just praying I dont have a head gasket leak. Im really hoping its just a line, that would be great. But Right now I can hardly finish getting my spark plugs out... Iv got 3 done so far... and Iv started removing some cables that hold some wires in place so Iv got more working room on the other side, hopefully it will make it easier. Anyone know of a tool to pull out spark plug wires? Or anything I can ghetto together? These things are really stuck. I dont think my sparks have ever been changed, so Its probably gonna be a good idea to pull my wires off again in about a week and change those too. Anyone know what I should do for tiney rust spots? Iv just got a few on there, but Im thinking about trying to find some silver paint and just going over those little spots with like, a tiney paint brush or somthing, I dont want the rust to continue and to corode, you know? I figured, After I get the car like I want it, Ill get a paint job. Im really happy with the way it looks, cause I never usualy worry about paint on a car anyway. 1viadrft 09-21-2004, 01:00 PM Have you tried checking out your heater-core hoses? DBSS_Gohan 09-21-2004, 01:17 PM Wheres the heater core? Is there an online BGB or somthing? (If you dont know what BGB is, Neither do I, but Its supposed to be some sort of technical book thing.) Or a technical writeups page thats REALLY thourough with some good layouts and diagnostics... and labeling, of the engine? That could help, but in the mean time, where is the heater core located? 1viadrft 09-21-2004, 04:47 PM It's in between your block and the fire wall (hoses)... not sure if that is where your leak is though. You should just replace every damn hose on that yatch... you'll be much happier in the long-run! longlivetheZ 09-21-2004, 05:50 PM lltz to the rescue...:p...j/k. Ok...For a grand, it looks VERY decent. It's basically the same thing I USED to have, but a 2 seater. I used to have an 86 2+2 that was a 5-speed and that same champagne color. I loved that car. Coolant leak...go through EVERY hose you can see and/or feel. There are plenty of them, so look carefully. I too would recommend just taking it to a shop and getting as many of them changed as you can afford. Most little thrifty lube type places will do this for you and it shouldn't cost you TOO much. Yes...you will be VERY happy you did this. They may have never been changed, as I believe to be the case with my current car (This very task is on my to-do list, actually). Preventative maintanence...your best friend. That "Object A" thing...no clue, man...can't tell from the pic. Give me a better pic and I'll either tell you or at least let you know. Go buy a Hayne's manual and a Nissan Factory Repair manual...look on eBay. Between those 2 resources, you'll find everything you'll probably ever need. Beings as your car is an N/A, I recommend either A) keeping it stock, clean, and in top notch running condition. These cars will run for a very long time and give you very few problems. Or...B) If you insist on modding, stick to suspention mods...make it handle awesome cuz you're not going to get it very fast...that's just the nature of the VG30E. Not a HUGE power house. If you want something that's more fun, get a turbo. Whatever route you choose to take, putting a really good system in it never hurts...my "v2.0" coming soon... :evillol: If you have any more questions or need anything else, please let me know, man. I don't get on here as often as I used to cuz I'm 23957297364920735926394 times busier now than I used to be, so send me a PM if you wanna make sure I get it. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2010, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
