92' g20 customizied van w/350 efi kept on stalling. Brought it to mechanic who replaced the computer he said was N/G. Engine stalled 2 miles from station. He then replaced the distributor. Still stalls..$1200 later and were scratching our heads??!! It starts hard...sometimes will drive for a couple of miles then stalls. Other times it starts and then stalls right away. Mechanic says its not a fuel problem??!! Has anyone out there encountered same problem??..Please help......Bob

Bob,

There are lots of reasons a g van can stall. If the first thing the dealer did is replace the computor, get a new mechanic. I'm in NJ unfortuneately, and all I do all day is diagnose cars. I can help you diagnose the problem your self if you would like. Start by listening to the fuel pump and checking spark. Is your climate wet lately or dry?

By the way. The last thing a good mechanic should replace is the computor. I rule out all other things before I condem the computor. I own a 6 bay repair shop and function as the lead diagnostic tech. You really need to find a private ASE master technician that does a lot of trouble shooting such as myself. Most of my diagnoses take less than 1 hour. Very few take more than 2, but it really has to be hands on.

Had a simular problem awhile back, in my case was the egr system. Farthest thing from my mind was the computer. Start the van, while idleing, pull the diaphram up and see if it stumbles or stalls, that is normal, if it does'nt stumble, the egr passages are clogged in the intake.
