I have a 1991 Toyota Celica ST with a 5-speed manual and I want to know what performance upgrades I should get on it. I need you to recommend what I should buy for it. I mostly want more horse power but any performance upgrades that you think would help alot are ok. I don't want to add anything that would cost 10 times as much as the car though. Help me out, thanks.

I`m curious, it seems to me that alot of folk over the other side of the big pond seem to buy Celica ST`s, then spend what appears to be alot of time & money making them more powerfull/faster etc the number of posts about adding turbo`s etc is unbelievable, surely it would make more sence to buy a GT/Gts and have a faster car from the get go. Could someone please enlighten me as to why the ST is so popular? and do all the mods to your cars effect your insurance premiums like it does here (UK) Just curious so dont bite my head off.

i got my ST as a graduation pressent so im stuck with it. but it is a good car, just slower then others. i also think it has something to do with how much it costs to get an st. about the insurance i hope it doesnt affect mine.

I wouldnt say "stuck with it" its a nice car to get as a present. I would have loved someone to give me a car when I graduated, getting one as a gift is a little different. To buy one, then spend even more money making it "faster" seems a little fruitless. Surely the difference in cost between an ST and a GT isnt as much as putting "X" thousands of dollars in modifying an ST to make it, in a few cases faster then a GT ,in most, probably not even as fast as a GT/GTs

yeah the only reason why i can see to buy an st is you can put a 4agze in it (180 HP) ...yet no one has done it yet

what motor is in the ST, never driven one and the 3rd gens had the same motor through all the model (here in the states) only diff was power windows/locks (gt) or IRS (GT-S). Do the st have that 1.6L or something?

it has the 4afe...you could do a 3sgte swap but it wold be mch easyer and cheaper to do on a gt or gts...diff motor mount points and youd need a new tranny

All I know is that 6th gen ST`s are 1.8s. (UK) (5th gen 1.6L like you said 103hp@6000rpm 102lb/ft@3200rpm - looked it up)

yeah 6th gens have 7afe
Horsepower 1994-95 110HP@5600RPM
1996-98 105HP@5600RPM
Torque 1994-95 114@2800RPM
1996-98 117@2800RPM
Hp was decresed in 96+ to meet with greater emisions laws passed...it upped the tourque tho...but by only 3 ft pounds
