Quarter Power windowsrogerramjet 09-18-2004, 10:50 AM Both back Quarter panel flip windows are inoperative on my 1996 Windstar , won't open or close Checked fuse OK checked power at switches OK checked continuity on switches OK checked for power at rear motor wiring plugs OK Checked continuity on Motor OK I am going to remove one of the motors today and check it with direct power from the battery Someone mentioned there may be actuators for these motors , anyone know anything about actuators and where they are located ?? Is there a relay for these I know there is one for the front Power windows is there also one for the back ?? Wiring diagram does not show it wiring diagrams in mannuals from Haynes and Chilton show a N/A symbol just before the motors . is this the symbol for the actuators ?? Anyone have similar problems and know a solution Search does not pick up on anything that duplictes this can't believe both motors blown at same time Roger busboy4 09-18-2004, 12:25 PM Hi on my '96 the problem has always been switches. As for the motors, they are self contained, no separate actuators to my knowlege. Sounds nutty, but try rapidly tapping the switches to see if you get any action. If so, take the switch assembly out, pry it apart until you can see the individual copper contacts. Clean them gently with some fine sandpaper. So far this has always fixed what is the most re-curring problem I have with the van. rogerramjet 09-20-2004, 10:38 AM Took the motors apart yesterday One internal plug had a broken contact center pole on plug for the motor was defective plastic had separated and contact was loose the other motor had a stripped gear on the drive mechanism only about 3 teeth left on it the motors are really not that complicated just having to rmove set belt and panelling took more time than anything else going to the wreckers today to see if I can find a similar model pre April 1996 production to swap out the parts I may be able to use a plug from a diferent model if they are compatable the change was a different shaped unit due to a body stamping change on the rear of the van mid 1996 Thanks for the help roger vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
