Best replacement tires

I'm getting ready to replace the oem General XP 2000 tires. I really didn't care much for the generals, but they did seem to last (50,000 miles). I'd like to stay with the raised letters as well...Anybody happy with their replacements. btw..I live in an area that gets pretty good snow in the winter. Thanks. Gary

I'm in the same situaton and have read the reviews on www.tirerack.com. Lots of good comments there. I'm checking out Bridgestone Turanza LT and BFGoodrich Control T/A. I have some white sidewall separation on my XP 2000 OEM tires which is the raised white lettering underlayment, so I think I'll go with blackwalls this time.

I just replaced a pair of CRAPPY firestone tires that came with my van after the ply split right down to the steel belt after a trip up and back in the mountains. I'll never buy firestone, not when my family is depending on them not to split going around a mountain pass on a 8% grade at 70mph. I put BF Goodrich VIVA touring tires on instead. Its an 80K mile tire with wide grooves for water dissipation. I got them at Walmart for 160 installed with tire warranty covering lifetime balancing/rotation, puncture repair, and replacement if they wear out before tire mileage (80K). I figure these vans are hard on front tires and so they'll end up getting replaced well before that 80k is up.
Plus i've had Douglas, General, Yokohoma, and others but always had best luck with BF Goodrich. They make the best Comp T/A, Allegra, and VIVA tires. Make sure you get a tire with a wide tire track, one that is nearly square right out to the corners. Alot of tires are rounded around the edges, so you get less surface contact.

My Wal mart carries a BF Goodrich Excentia GT touring tire. Is this similar to the tire that you metioned? I like the idea of Wal Mart tires because they are everywhere we travel and I would think they stand behind their sales. I was going to go with a private label tire, but finding the same tire as a replacement may be difficult. Thanks for your help. Gary

I am on my third Montana/TranSport and have used Goodyear, Bridgestone & Sears brand "rain groove" tires on all three with good results.

The excentia GT is more of a sport tire, with only a 40K mile tread life. If they carry the excentia, they should also carry the GoodYear VIVA. There will also be a VIVA 2 tire, DO NOT GET THIS ONE, its a value tire and not as good as the VIVA touring.

Oh ,sorry, in my original post, I said they were BF Goodrich tires, but in fact they are GoodYear tires.
