I have a '99 Prizm and have had a computer analysis done by my local mechanic and get several read outs indicating problems with evap system, driveline, fuel system. My mechanic does think he can do any more than diagnose. Is the best move to go to the local dealer?
I am stumped.

Did you take it there because you were having problems? I have been against taking a car to the dealer cuz their charges are outrageous, but after taking my car to different shops and the problem is still not fixed, I have nothing to lose by going to the dealer. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is if you're having problems go on to the dealer. My opinion.

unless your engine is setting numerous codes, as indicated by the ilumination of the "Check Engine light" Or running extreemly irratic, don't be too alarmed. The Prizm is reliable.

Here's what to do: Go to AutoZone, ask the counter person to have your codes read. write them down, if any, and then come back and talk to us.

Also it wouldn't hurt, depending on your milage, to change the air filter and sparkplugs....oil & filter.. ect, ect...easy, do it yourself kinda jobs.

My car geo prism 1997 got flooded last week (I drove into water high up to a knee). A day after I tried to turn it on and it was running, though I didn't attempt to drive it yet since it was still raining heavily. I waited one more day and tried to turn it on again but it would run only 2-3 seconds before it turned off again.

I towed my car to the car mechanic shop and the guy told me that I needed to replace the computer and that I needed to do the tune-up (total cost $510). He says my car wouldn't turn on at all now. I called one more mechanic shop, described the problem and the person told me my car probably needs only a new air-filter.

Any suggestions what to do? Thank you.
