1992 camry steamingtommyboy6 09-15-2004, 07:36 PM just bought a 92 camry le, test drove it for like two hours with the guy. 113000 miles. everything was nice, took the guy back to his house, took the interstate, got up to about 75, then pulled back in my driveway, took the baby out, wife and boy got out, backed up to park in the grass in front of the house, parked, and then it started steaming from the overflow line, the overflow tank was boiling. the temperature gauge never went over half. smelled the antifreeze. what is the problem. Brian R. 09-15-2004, 08:03 PM Head gasket is bad and needs to be replaced. tommyboy6 09-15-2004, 08:16 PM thanks man that is what another guy told me too, so i appreciate it you think that that is the only thing that could be wrong, the other guy mentioned maybe a cracked block, also, the coolant seemed kind of watery, could it have just started to boil because of too much water thanks Brian R. 09-16-2004, 12:49 AM What you're seeing is not boiling, it is combustion gases being pushed into the water jacket by the piston. A cracked block is possible, but bad head gaskets are much more common. tommyboy6 09-21-2004, 11:29 PM well, it ended up being that the fans only worked when the a/c was on, when i turned it off and idled in the driveway for 5 minutes, it started to boil and that is where the steaming came from, just thought you might like to know, thanks for the help. Brian R. 09-22-2004, 01:30 AM Sorry for the wrong advice. My bad. :( That is the problem with internet car advise. It is easy to totally overlook the obvious because you assume, without thinking about it, that the person reporting the problem has given you all the information. Bad assumption, I know... nipsirc 09-22-2004, 07:56 PM Brian Don't worry about giving advise. Your educated advise is always welcome and great and free. If I go to the dealership, they would charge me a arm and a leg with a bad advise to boot. Man, we appreciate your time taken to help us in our time of need. You are a good man in my books !!! Brian R. 09-22-2004, 11:54 PM Thanks for the build-up. :) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
