I simply Don't Know!

My 95 Corsica blew a head gasket. My brother had the heads repaired and put it all back together. My car starts up, but after a minutes when it eats up it will not start and goes dead. It lacks power and spits and sputters. I have been told four different things as to the problem. Has anyone ever had this problem with a 3.1 6 cylinder. Please------?

He might have forgotten to plug something back in when he put it all together. Make sure its all hooked up first. You could also try an ecm relearn.

I think that ECM deals with the computer. What's a relearn?

Lol, yeah the ECM is the electronic control module, its the cars computer. A relearn is pretty much where you reset it, and let it "relearn" its settings after you replace certain sensors/parts on the engine.
To reset it unhook the battery for about ten minutes. Go get a snack or a drink while you wait, otherwise itll seem like its takin' forever. Hook the battery back up and start it. Itll idle real crappy for a few minutes. If it dies, restart it and let it idle some more. The ECM will adjust the sensors and everything until it finds a good smooth idle. You will know when its found it. After that it may decide to keep tryin to find better settings but you dont have to wait for it. Once the engine smooths out cut it off for a few seconds. Restart it, it should idle smooth and have good throttle response. Now take it for a short drive on the highway, about 10 - 15 miles should do fine, so it can relearn its feul settings.

sounds to me like the timing is off by 1 or 2 cogs

You dont have to worry about timing on a corsica because its not OHC.

BTW, did you ever figure out what was wrong with it?
