89 accord gas guage not respondingthepig333 09-13-2004, 06:08 PM I got an 89 accord, and I get no response out of the fuel guage. Do you think this could be the sender? If so then where in my car could I find the sender? If you don't think it is the sender, then what? I am stumped and I can't find anything in the haynes book about it. mpumas 09-14-2004, 01:41 AM The easiest way to troubleshoot a gauge problem is to find the sensor which is attached to the top of the tank, probably on the right side in the trunk or under the back seat. THere is a plastic cover covering the sensor. Remove the cover, disconnect the connector and short the terminals on the cable. Turn on the key. If your guage slowly goes to full, the problem is the sensor. thepig333 10-14-2004, 05:27 PM OK I have changed the gas sensor completely out, as well as my fuel pump and my fuel relay. Does any one else know what this may be. Also My car has a problem where it revs up to around 3000 rpm, when I am stopping or sitting still at like a red light or something. I have no clue what this could be. I have changed my throttle cable, and checked each of my injectors. Please help me... henrymv 10-14-2004, 05:35 PM Have ytou checked for a vacuum leak in one of the hoses? Withthe hood up and listening closely to the engine do you hear any hissing noises??? So was the problem with the gas gauge the sensor??? thepig333 10-14-2004, 06:06 PM no the gas guage is still not working henrymv 10-14-2004, 06:08 PM i take it the other gauges are working properly? Have you check the electrical connection that leads to teh gauge? thepig333 10-14-2004, 06:14 PM yes the other guages work fine. No I haven't checked the electrical connection. I do not know where that is. The only thing I have checked electrical is my fuel sensor. Also I do not hear any hissing sound other than my intake. henrymv 10-14-2004, 06:15 PM the electrical connections start behind the gauge and go toward the sensor thepig333 10-14-2004, 06:17 PM so do I need to remove my dash? henrymv 10-14-2004, 06:18 PM yep thepig333 10-14-2004, 06:19 PM well that sucks. do you have any suggestions about my car revving so high? henrymv 10-14-2004, 06:23 PM there is a vacuum leak somewhere....get a can of ether or starting fluid and lightly mist around the hoses, while the engine is running. When you hear the engine increase RPM's then you have a bad hose or a crack in ahose somewhere or you can also have a disconnected hose or slighty disconnected hose. thepig333 10-14-2004, 06:44 PM ok I have pratically sprayed everything in my engin and no change in rpms. any other suggestions? mpumas 10-14-2004, 10:54 PM In my last post I told you how to determine if it was the sensor or wiring/dash guaqe. Did you do the test and what were the results if you did? thepig333 10-14-2004, 11:20 PM I have not taken my dash apart yet. I will try to do so by the end of weekend. I did try spraying the engine vaccum hoses with ether and got no response from vaccum leaks. Do you have another suggestion on how to test to find the leak? henrymv 10-14-2004, 11:55 PM I think what mpumas is saying to do first is to check the connection at the fuel tank area....do that first before you tear your dash apart....see what voltage you have there...if there is none then you need to follow the wiring back and see where it is broken.... thepig333 10-15-2004, 12:13 AM OK I will go and buy something to check the voltage tomorrow. mpumas 10-15-2004, 03:53 AM Don;t take the dash apart until you short the wires to ground at the gas tank sensor and see what the guage does. thepig333 10-15-2004, 12:48 PM ok I haVE SUCCEDED. Wires were loose behind the dash. yeah. thankyou for all of the help I recieved. henrymv 10-15-2004, 12:51 PM Yeah!!! Congrats.....it feels good when you fix things don't you.... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
