i have a 2001 cavalier and lately it seems a little weak in low rpm's in first.. I just totalled my 96 z24 (not my fault) and i purchased a 2001 2.2l and maybe im just used to the 2.4 which had a little more "get-up". I wish i could have found another z24 but i didnt have time to shop around much. I was wondering if anybody had some advice on performance upgrades to help my low rpm's. I'm thinking maybe a new camshaft... and suggestions... thanks

pulleys, cams, camshafts , and exhaust if u wanna kick up the torque, thats what the 2.2 lacks, thats why it has no pick up.

Ok i hate when people constantly rip on the 2200 cause their not Z24s....I have had my 2200 for about a year now and have added some basic bolt on mod and i can easily pull on an ecotec.

For example, i have done an INduction Dynamics cold air intake, Weapon R header, high flow cat, and a full cat back....I also have waiting to be installed when i get a chance is a RSM intake mani, Rsm Ported TB, and RSM lighten crank pulley. and after these mods done i will probably be pullin on a Z24 also...and all those bolt on for around $1000...not a bad deal in my mind.

So if i can pull on an ecotec and soon to be Z24....how can i be putting out less then 100hp....I mean they are 120hp stock...go figure...well i just thought i,d throw my 2 cents in.

btw, you can buy the pullies for the 2200 at Cavalierconnection.com however i would reccomend going with the RSM Lighten Crank pully....THis will provide faster rev and it WON'T effect your stereo power!

Peace

yea the motor puts out 120hp stock but by the time it gets to the wheels it is far less than 120. so lightening up on the parts Ex.. pully, cams, flywheel etc... and adding an intake with exhaust and a header will help and yes you may have more hp to the wheels

Nobody is ripping on the 2200...It's just a well known fact that the 2200 at the WHEEL doesn't put out a complete 120hp... Even the Z24 with a 2.4l 150HP isn't putting out 150HP at the wheels...From the flywheel to the wheels, the car loses some of that horsepower...It's not something that anyone likes... But that is why everyone mods...To gain back that horsepower at the wheels, then have some fun.. The 2200 is a nice engine..Very reliable, and can be modded very nicely...But don't take offense to someone who is just stating the truth...
