I have a 1999 CR-V EX manual with the real time 4wd. When I am accelerating in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear, right around the 2500 to 3000 rpm mark, I get a slight shudder (feels like it is coming from the front wheels but not sure). After about 3000 rpm, the shudder goes away and all is well. Has anyone experienced this?

Also, I have 61000 miles on this car -- what symptoms are indicative of a need for replacing the timing belt?

Also, I bought this car used. It is the EX model, but came from the dealer with no keyless remote. Should it have come with keyless entry?

As for your shudder, there are many potential causes. 1) CV joint/shaft problems 2) transmission problem 3) wheel bearing problem 4) drive hub assembly problem

As for a timing belt, there are no symptoms prior to it breaking. Check the owners manual and replace at the mileage suggested.

I don't know whether it came with keyless entry.

I have a 99 CRV with auto and 2WD. I also have a shudder at low rpms with light throttle pressure at about 40 - 50 mph. I have replaced my timing belt and transmission fluid as part of routine maintenance but no change in shuddering. I suspect that it is a clutch or transmission problem but it is not bad enough to want to spend money on it yet.

I've experienced shuddering several times on our 2002 CR-V. For some reason, our CR-V seems to build up tons of mud and road grime inside the rims. This mud puts the wheels off balance and has caused a shuddering similar to what you've experienced (noticable at different speeds). In any event, it's a cheap and quick thing to fix -- a stiff brush and some water does the trick every time.

let me add tire out of balance or out of round, worn tie rod ends, worn lower ball joint, damaged tires (check for bumps), and too much wheel run out.
