Keysmrfirebird 09-06-2004, 02:41 PM is there any way to get the original key remade? mines looks really worn and it doesn't work very well on the doors and will not open the rear hatch. 94 blazer tbischop 09-06-2004, 08:34 PM I've had that done on both my 89 & 93. Call a local GM dealer Parts Dept to ask the details of what they'll need. Generally, there is an original lock code they'll use to remake it. Otherwise, youll need to have all new locks and keys made. Mikado14 09-06-2004, 08:41 PM When the vehicle was purchased new, you should have received a knockout from the key with a code. This code number can be used by a GM dealer or a locksmith to punch (not cut on a key machine) a new key. I suppose now you will say that you bought the car used. Oh well, I guess it looks like new locks unless the VIN might help, this, I don't know. annguyen1981 09-17-2004, 03:02 PM I don't think the VIN will help with getting a BRAND NEW factory key. AaronIROCZ 09-19-2004, 12:49 PM Yes it will, I don't know about the cut off year but 4 years ago I had lost a set of keys to my car at work (89 Camaro) I gave them the VIN and they looked it up and made me the keys that came with it from the factory but somebody changed out the ign lock so it didn't work. BlazerLT 09-19-2004, 01:34 PM guys, I highly doubt the VIN will get you the right keys. If that was true, I would walk up to someone's corvette, read and mark down the VIN and then go get keys at the local dealer made and go and steal it. You get what I am saying, it is not that easy or anyone could realistically rip off anyone's car. Mikado14 09-19-2004, 01:42 PM First off, you can't just walk in and give a VIN. Ten years ago I did this. However, they wanted to see my driver's license and the owner's card for the vehicle before they did anything. Is it still possible? I have no idea. But it was at one time. BlazerLT 09-19-2004, 01:43 PM Ah, no one mentioned the drivers license and ownership part. annguyen1981 09-19-2004, 06:19 PM I'm guessing that you have to show your license and your insurance card IF you can use your VIN to get a key made. Mikado14 09-19-2004, 06:22 PM Instead of guessing, read the previous posts. But then, this was in Pennsylvania. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
