Engine Rattle when driving, idle, etc.

Ok, i've read most of these post that talked about a rattle in the engine during startup and mine (93 G20) does the same. The thing is the noise stays when I drive, while I stop at a stoplight, pretty much all the time. I've got 109K miles on my baby and cant afford to do any expensive repairs since I'm a full time student and no parental backup. Please tell me this is something I could fix myself.

Not sure if this is important, but 2 weeks before this problem started I went ahead and degreased the engine. And the noise seems to be coming from under the engine itself. Please help!!

I've got a very similar issue with my 94 G20T (101K miles, AT). Rattle comes from in/around/under the engine block when at idle, or under acceleration up until ~15 mph then it goes away. Happens in reverse, drive, idle.

Any ideas out there?

hey there,
i just got a 93 G20 with 85k on it, i had the rattle/vibration problem with the car when i bought it. I'd shown it to a mechanic prior to buying and he told me the problem was with the engine mounts (they're rubber blocks which absorb engine vibrations). there're 3 of them in the G20 and all 3 were blown in my case. cost me abt $400 (genuine parts+labor) with a nissan mech to fix that problem (dealers charge upto twice that), but was ok for me as i got that amt deducted from the sale price. i saw the mechanic do the repair and its not easy to do it yourself unless you can lift the car 10 feet up!

with the new mounts, the ride was much much quieter at low gears in particular, although very minor dashboard rattles occur rarely at certain speeds. actually the G20s blow their mounts much earlier compared to other cars (new mounts at 85k is a joke), although the 2.0 engine is a gem. hope this helps.
