Im planning on putting a Flowmaster 40 series muffler on my blazer while keeping the stock piping, has anybody done that if so how does it sound. If i dont like it i think i will just put a turndown on it. Any advice would help, thanks.

The piping will be fine.

You will need a muffler with a center in / offset out configuration with 2.25" pipe work.

You want something that sounds a lot beter than a Flowmaster 40? Check out my Ravin Z55 I got from Midas, thaey are a helluva lot louder.

Here are the clips:

Mine wasn't even the loudest model, the Z33 is even louder and touted to be the loudest factory muffler in the market.

Our stock 2.25" piping is completely sufficient and no upgrade is needed or required. All that is needed is a muffler upgrade seeing our stock muffler is so HUGE and is there for being quiet rather than performance.

Depending on the shop, it should be anymore than 100-150 to install it with parts tax and everything included.

Trust me on this, it flows and sounds a lot better than Flowmaster especially if you get the Z33.

BlazerLT,

Do you have your tailpipe going straight out the back of the Blazer?

I'm wondering how that might look like. I have heard that some people put the tailpipe in front of the rear tire so less damage would happen if you do a lot of off-roading.

What are your thoughts? better yet...do you have any pictures you could show?

Thanks,

I wanted to put the tailpipe right in front of my rear tire too but it doesnt look like there is enough room and your piping would have to go under the frame, i have only seen exhaust like that on trucks.

Blazer LT,

Is your exhaust louder than it would be with a FM40

Yes, Ravin's are a lot louder and rumble. Not as raspy as the flow40.

BTW, use your stock tail pipe for the setup with a chrome tip.

Looks sahweet!

yeah sorry i went to midas today and the wanted $200 to just install a raven Z55 because i needed a little extra pipe for it to fit. So i went to my local muffler shop and they put a FM40 on for $120, i couldnt decide on a tip so i will go back later, will a larger tip make it louder?

They are practically the same muffler and both will require that piece of pipe.

Because they were ripping you off.

Walk in there tomorrow and tear a strip off of them.

I had mine installed for US$150 out the door and it took them about 40 minutes.

Again, go to them and fucking rip their heads off.
