hmmm....rhombus 05-27-2001, 10:17 PM Today I was trying to get into a postiton to winch out a D-90 and well you get the idea. At least I had a good recovery position :) Once he was out I just winched myself out of the rut and we were on out way. (winch - best mod by far!) http://www.soxc.org/xterra4x4/DSCF0024.jpg http://www.soxc.org/xterra4x4/DSCF0025.jpg enzo@af 05-28-2001, 12:29 AM Damn, that looks fun. Schludwiller 05-28-2001, 01:35 AM I've only had to use my winch 3 times. But every time I've needed it, I've been damn glad it was there. Definitely one of the top performing mods on an Xterra. warmonger 05-28-2001, 03:51 AM Rhombus, Just curious, why didn't you use snatch straps so you didn't have to drive into the rut and wind up repacking your bearings? I used that technique to recover a Hummer. If you use a 3" strap you have 30,000 lbs of strength even if you tie two of them together and then you don't have to do repairs to your truck to boot. In our case, we used a 10 foot tree strap and a 30 foot snatch strap in conjunction with block and tackle to recover it. rhombus 05-28-2001, 08:41 AM I did not want to be in the hole ;-) I was trying to get around it to the left (you can see there is room). I ended up slipping into the hole (I did not pay enough attention). I tried to get out but I just got myself more stuck. I was going to use a strap and the winch line (135 ft) to get the 90 out but this looked like an easy bypass (opps :-). The 90 was not part of our group and was really stuck far into the trail. We ended up backing out (as we had some stock vehicles that would not have made it). Thanks for the reminder on the bearing repack. I had planned on this anyways as I have been is some water the past few weeks. DVSNCYNIKL 05-28-2001, 09:09 AM That looks messy!:D But then it again, it also looks like fun. Philosopher 05-29-2001, 04:16 PM Nice pics Rhombus! Originally posted by Schludwiller I've only had to use my winch 3 times. But every time I've needed it, I've been damn glad it was there. I've used mine quite a few times ... glad I got it in December cause I used it a lot in January and February when all the trails around here were covered in ice. :) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
