wind noise from mirrors

I have complained to local GM dealers about excessive wind noise and whistling sounds around the mirrors. The problem was particularly prominent during crosswinds. (Sometimes this is a whistling sound, other times it sounds like someone blowing air across the mouth of an empty soda bottle.) No solutions were ever offered. Then, there it was on the Automotive Body Repair News website (below) ... the problem identified and Oldsmobile's solution! You can bet my next trip to the service department will include a copy of this report!

Wind noise at mirror

1998-2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue
Wind noise at mirror
According to General Motors Bulletin No. 02-08-64-001, some 1998-2001 Buick Century, 1998-2001 Buick Regal and 1998-2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue models have problems with wind noise or “whistling” around the mirrors on the front doors. The noise may occur during specific speeds or during crosswinds.

The problem may be caused by an excessive gap between the botom of the mirror patch and the belt molding, or from air leakage at the cut line on the mirror assembly.

To remedy the problem, install the cut line gasket kit along with a base gasket according the instructions in the kits.

Important: Repair both doors at the time of repair.

Part numbers listed on the bulletin include P/N 10318884- Cut line gasket kit (RH); P/N 10318885- Cut line gasket kit (LH) and P/N 10322794- Insulator (new for LH side only).
