You sure you need to install a new one?

How do you know? They don't fail on the 1996.

I would not replace it with another CSFI unit, I'd get the MFI replacement from GM. About $200 plus S&H online. Part numbers are 12568332 MFI Spider assembly: 88894355 Bracket(can reuse old one): 17113215 seal kit. These part numbers are for a V6

my mec. said she was misfiring on cycl. no. 6, i bought it in to him because it had a realy rough idle and very hard to start. he told me it was the injectors. you said the dont fail on the 96 but i thought iread some of the same problems on 96 and up. on this site.

would you suggest something different? i'm all ears

I suggest you replace the poppet valve going to the 6th cylinder then, not the whole unit.

Have you done a tuneup or anything?

Are you getting any check engine codes?

ritz93

just cahnge that one line to the 6th cylinder?
i was going to change the fuel regulator as well. i got engine codes when my mech. scanned it, i had brought it in for a tune up. he changed thing , the idle got a little better but not much. the check engine light comes on and flashes at idle. i thought it was better to change the whole unit, but i know they sell the poppet valves alone for around 80 bucks your probably right. i was concrened with other ones being or going bad.

You need to ask your mechanic what the codes were.

Do you know them?

Not the description, the actual numbers.

ritz93

i'll have to ask him what the codes were, i thought i had them writen down. the ticket he gave doesn't have the codes on it, he only wrote problem with fuel injector.

And that is why I would be suspecting his diagnosis.

ritz93
08-23-2004, 09:52 PM
do you think he's full of it? and that not be the problem?????

BlazerLT

Well, It might be, but I am not liking the lack of details in his synopsis.

Too general.

Get the exact codes and we can go from there.

ritz93

Ok, and also, when he is getting the codes, be there and see it on the machine itself.

Don't have him come out with a book and point to it, make sure he shows you the code on the scanner.

Better yet, get the codes read at Autozone for free for a reference.

Also, you never told me if you have ever done a tuneup and what it detailed?

ritz93

okay i'll check that out,

i did get a tune up thought i said that, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, new fuel filter, pcv, air filter. do you think it sounds like something else, ever come across anything like this one? i'll get those codes.

Well, before I make any shots in the dark, I would like to see the codes first.

even clinton's says that code is a misfire on 6. what do you think? should i replace the poppet valve and see what happens?

First, check the distributor cap for a bad connection. Take it off and check for corrosion.

Second, you don't have tyo replace the whole fuel injection unit. Only replace the 6th clylinder fuel injector.

For example, it looks exactly like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7917565682&category=33557

The 6th cylinder is the passenger side cylinder closest to the firewall.

That should set you right up.

Buy a Haynes or Chilton repair manual for US$15 and do it yourself.

It is fun learning how to do your own maintenance.

If You Change From A Csfi To A Mfi, Does The Computer Have To Be Reprogramed? Does Mfi Help Performance?

Jeremy-WI
08-30-2004, 06:57 PM
no reprogram, and if it helps performance its just because the injectors are new and not gummed up- same size injectors as csfi but no poppet valve

BlazerLT

But realistically, a complete fuel injection system change because of one single injector is a little idiotic and a complete waste of money.

Replace the injector and enjoy.

That was posted a year ago and he said his problem has been fixed, I don't think that he wants to buy your injector assembly.
