rear wheel sqeak

Hello all,
'99 blazer LT 4dr, 4wd. I have had a squeaking in both the drivers and passengers side rear wheels. The sqeak sounded just like a wear indicator on a worn brake pad. I found that the brake caliper slides had frozen in the bracket and the rotors were all chewed up. I replaced the rotors, and replaced the brake pads with Raybestos ceramic, quiet stop pads. I was able to break the slides free and repolish them and the bracket. coated all wear surfaces with lithium grease.

I still have the dame sqeak. :banghead: The sqeak only starts after having driven the truck for a while when it warms up. I was in a parking lot and noticed the sqeak intensified on the left when I turned had right and then intensified on the right when I turned hard left. The drivers side axle bearing has small amount of up/down play. The passenger side does not have any. Driving straight the sqeak is more prominent on the passenger side. I am thinking it's the axle bearings, but there is a small part of me that thinks maybe these ceramic pads are the problem as I have never used them before. I have seen a spray lube by bendix that you spray on your rotors and pads to stop brake sqeak, but I have a hard time thinking that stuff is a good thing to use. I am leaning towards the bearing but wanted to your opinion.

I had a frozen front caliper and all it did was squeak all the time. Your probably gonna need to replace both calipers.

I'm running Bosch ceramic pads in my wife's 99 Envoy for the last 18K miles, they do not squeak/squeal. A worn or rough axle bearing would be noisy all the time. Agree with the previous post, sounds like the issue is with the calipers.

Sounds like you might have cooked the rear bearings.

I have a hard time believing it's the calipers. Wouldn't the calipers squeek when I apply the brake? This squeek does not change in pitch or volume at all when I step on the brake. No affect what so ever. The only thing that affects the noise is the speed I am going. If it were the caliper, then i would think there was contact from the caliper to the rotor which i have already verified is not the case.

Anywhere from 0-10mph and it squeeks. After that it quites down.

I thnk I am going to replace the bearings first. Might try the u-joints next.

U-joints never squeak.

Yea he's right, the u joints dont' squeak, No the Piston won't squeak the same when you put the brakes on.

Yea, I can pretty well guarantee the bearings are gone or the rear brakes need servicing.

Are they rear disc or drum?

I could have sworn they didn't have disc on the back.

Anythings possible. i would try to grease the bearings first and see how it runs, then replace em if the noise doesn't stop.

It does have rear disc brakes. I just replaced them 2 weeks ago along with the rotors. When the squeek started, that is what I thought the squeek was. I replaced the rotors abd pads. Repolished the slides becase 2 of them, one on each side, were frozen in the abutment bracket. I used the brake lube stuff on the back side of the pads. The pads are Raybestos quite stop ceramic pads. They even came with a sticker of some sort that goes on the back side of the outboard pad. My factory pads had the same sticker on them.

I realy think it's the bearings. I am going to replace them next weekend.
