I just replaced my condensor which had a leak. I had the system tested for leaks, and the vacuum held up fine for 15 minutes. Had them put in some dye and charge the system and everything seemed ok. Here's the new issue... I don't think it's the cycle switch but what's happening is that the clutch isn't turning off at all now. So the pressure is building and building slowly making it's way to around 250. The guy at pep boys told me that it must be the pressure switch which I guess regulates the pressure.

Any thoughts from anybody?
And if it is this little piece, can I simply get a new one and screw it on without any danger from the high pressure system??

Hey dude.My name is Tom. I had the same problem with my a/c clutch. If you unplug the wire from your cycle switch, you will see a slotted screw insidethe switch. Its located inside between the 2 contact prongs. Take a slotted screwdriver and turn the screw in until the compressor clutch stops. then back it out a half a turn at a time until the compressor starts kicking on and off. If you run it the way it is now, constantly turning, you will build up too much pressure and cause another leak. And your a/c lines will freeze and you will not get good cooling from your system.
When I bought my 93 G/C in January, my a/c did not work at all. That was how I found out about the adjustment. The previous owner had a jumper wire in the plug so it would not constantly run. Good luck!! Email me and let me know how you make out at JeepDriver58@cox.net

My problem was the relay switch. There is a group of three under the hood – in the electrical junction box. One is the AC compressor clutch relay. You can use one of the other two to test it by swapping it out. If it is the relay, it is $12 at any auto parts store. My new one says FORD on it.

The HP safety switch should cause the compressor to stop when the pressure it too high. It is a safety switch. It does not discharge any Refegerant; it is not a relief valve.

First off 250psi on the high side is normal or even a little low.Does the ac work ok? IS the evap freezing up?If it works dont worry about it.How much R134 did you put in?Should be 1.75 lbs.I assume its a 93-98 zj if it has the switch on the accumulator

I'm gonna check the relay switch tonight. The A/C works fine, but for now I'm flicking the A/C switch inside on and off every 10 minutes or so.
The pressure was jumping pretty high when the engine would rev. The mechanic told me it's gotta be the high pressure switch, but I just want to make sure it's not the cycle switch, or possibly both.. I just found out today the either part is under $30.00, so worse comes to worse, I'll just replace both..

what do you mean by the pressure was jumping pretty high?if you are concerned about the low side switch what is the low side pressure?that switch should open at 20.5 psi on the low side.also depending on the ambient temperature, the high side could go up to 390psi and still be considered normal.it sounds like you might be trying to fix something that aint broken.

ok, here's what I can tell you, being I'm not a mechanic.
I took the truck to Pep Boys to check for leaks and evacuate and recharge the system. He did some vacuum test on it to check for leaks and told me it was holding the vacuum fine for about 15 minutes. So ok, we don't have any leaks. He then evacuates and starts to charge the system. Everything so far looked good. It's blowing cold, and the pressure looked good (I don't know what number is good or bad, so I'm just going by what the mech said). I went in to pay my bill, when I walked back to the garage to get the truck, I noticed it was still inside with the hood open, so I go in to see what's up, and the mech was concerned that the pressure was getting dangeriously high and he noted that the condensor wasn't turning off and on as he indicated to me that it should. He then showed me that the pressure climbed very high when he would rev the engine. He played with the adjustment screw on the cycle switch, and it made no change, he checked voltage on some other items and he said they were all fine. His verdict was that it was the high pressure switch. He told me that this switch should shut off the clutch when the pressure get's to a certain point and regulate the pressure....
Now again, I'm not a mechanic, so I'm just looking for a second opinion, but now that I've learned that these parts are so inexpensive, I may just get them and swap them out...
