ignition sticks and remains in 3rd gear

I really need some help with this one. My 97 s10 blazers transmission has been remaining in 3rd gear when I drive my car, but it doesn't happen all the time. One thing that is questionable is that my key will not come out of the ignition when the trans. thing happens, it kinda has to be coached out with a little violence. Also my gas gauge is having a mind of its own.
I'm thinking that maybe my ignition switch is the problem, but I'm really not sure. Could the ignition switch cause my trans. problem, I know it can cause the key sticking and gas guage to go crazy. Any input would be GREATLY appreciated.

I think you are dead right witht the ignition switch. If you have access, see Service Bulletin 01-07-30-002C. One of the complaints on this service bulletin is the Transmittion stuck in 3rd Gear. The other two complaints are the Instrument Cluster going haywire, and the Malfunction indiccator light going on. You may be experiencing one or more of the complaints. Replace the Ignition switch! If my info is correct, there is bad solder joint(s) in the switch.
