Here's a step by step from autozone's website (i swear i don't work for them  ) http://www1.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?ForwardPage=az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/0c/f8/ff/0900823d800cf8ff.jsp And yes you have to remove the axle like gitter said. Best thing to do is run to your local auto parts store and but a Haynes manual... Pulling the axle is pretty easy and with the manual you should have no problem. I haven't work on this particular year, but you have to remove the steering knuckle and the easiest way is to unbolt the lower ball joint and use a 2 jaw puller (you can use a fork but it may goof up your rubber seals) You may be able to just unbolt the upper control arm and swing the unit to the side to get the clearance you need -- just an idea. winlo408 08-18-2004, 01:15 AM cool, i just bought a repair manual, hopefully i'll get this done by 2morrow morning. thanks for the info Stereo 08-24-2004, 01:08 AM since you have a lxi just pull the airbox on the intake you should have have enough room to get the alternator out from the top if you have a carb. car then you have to pull the axle winlo408 08-24-2004, 02:20 AM i already pulled the axle, thanks anyways. does anyone know if the axle is suppose to be flush with the transmission or is their a little gap between them, the reason i ask this because i just put my axle back in and theirs a little gap. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
