can somebody give me some instructions on how to clean the EGR valve, I'm not real familiar with these parts and the dealer wants $125 just to clean the damn thing. I want to see if it's easy enough to do myself.

I would like to know how to do this as well. The actual EGR valve, from what I hear, is right on top of the engine and very easy to see and get to, and most people I hear clean it out themselves. Unfortunately...any instructions / pictures of how to do this seem to be nonexistent.

Can no body give us a little bit of help? I'm not asking for in-depth details, just enough to get me started and I'll figure the rest out myself.

I cleaned my own EGR ports. It is simple. You really do need to buy a repair manual though. It makes it easier to know up front if you even want to attempt something yourself. It has been awhile since I did it, but the best I remember the first thing you do is pull the fuel rail off and your EGR is up under that. And the valve itself is located towards the passenger side of the car. I used throttle body cleaner to spray everything down and clean it. There is like 4 or 6 bolts to remove from the port railing to expose the ports. Sorry, I lack proper terminology for this stuff, but all that matters is I got it done and saved money doing it. I hope this helps you. If not let me know and I'll get my repair manual out and walk you through it that way.

Okay I went out and bought a Haynes Manual but now I'm having trouble taking the nuts off. I managed to wedge a socket in there and tried to turn it but there's just nto enough room. I'm guessing you took the fuel rail off to get to the other nut, correct? Anyways, I see now what I'm supposed to do. SO. Now my question is, after I get the thing off what of it do I actually clean?

And also, while I have somebody's attention (hopefully) after everything is done, how do I reset the ECU to see it this fixed my Code 12?

Yes, I did pull the fuel rail off. It is a must! Clean everything you can while you have it off. There is nothing on it you can hurt as long as you do not get the electrical connection wet. And I just sprayed everything and let it soak real good, let it all dry and put it back on. When you are done, Just unhook your battery for a minute or so and it should be reset. Hope this helps !! If not, let me know.

How much gas spill out should their be from disconnecting the medal elbow, it looked like alot so I retightened it before too much spilled out.

Nevermind, cross that out about the removal of the fuel rail, I got that down. But I'd still like to know about the fuel spills before I take it off. Is there anything I need to watch for?

You should have opened your gas cap to release pressure first. But if you did not, it's no big deal. It wont hurt anything. I'll go ahead and tell you now though, when you get everything put back on, before you crank the car, turn your key on four or five times to to let the fuel pump build pressure back up in the fuel rail. You can hear the fuel pump activate, just let it quit running before you turn it off and turn the key again.

OKay I took off the gas cap and gas continues to pour out when I loosen the fuel feed, any ideas?

When I take the fuel rail off do I take out the injectors too?

It will pour gas out, but it will stop. I would say it pours out maybe a half cup. And yes, when you pull the fuel rail off, you will have to pull the fuel rail loose from the injectors. Just slightly pull on the fuel rail and they will come out of the rail but still be in the engine itself. Leave them that way. Be sure and unplug each one of the electrical connections from them.

Okay I pulled the fuel rail and the injectors came with it, so I slid it back in, is that okay? Then after I stuck it back in I tried to hold down the injectors and fuel start leaking out so I slid it back on.

No, that's ok for them to come out with it. Mine did.

Alright so here's the plan:

Since the injectors come out with the fuel rail, I need to hold them down and pull on the fuel rail until each of them slide off. After I'm done, I just simple slide it back on to the injectors, place the connector back on them, and bolt it back down.

But here's a quick question:

Each time I pull an injector from the rail, alot of gas is spilled. This happens with each injector. I don't understand this because I released the pressure by doing the gas cap thing and using the service nut. I just need to know if these gas spills can hurt anything if not cleaned up because sometimes it's very hard to get to.

BTW, Thanks alot for all the help!

No the gas wont hurt anything. As long as you get the majority of it up. The rest will evaporate pretty quick. And you are welcome for the help. I will be gone out of town this afternoon and wont be back until tomorrow. So after this next hour or so, I'll be unreachable. Hope you have gotten far enough along to handle it from here. If not, I'll try and check back in tomorrow.

As it seems now, it seems like just getting to the EGR valve is the hardest part of the whole process. I've removed the fuel rail and everything but guess what? Now the nut I was getting to has been rounded off. I went to auto zone and got a nut buster but it won't fit! Just my luck. I'll need to figure out to get this damn nut off.

I hope you get it off. The rest is easy.

Okay I need major help now, everything is done I was left looking at a washer. I have an idea of where it goes, but I'm going to ask first. Is there a washer under where the fuel feed bolts into the fuel rail? I didn't think anything of it until I tried starting the car and gas came squirting out from both sides. Any help would be GREAT!

Okay when it says to turn the key to ON to build up fuel pressure, will you be able to hear anything? Because I did it, but didn't hear anything. Then tried to start the car and it just shot fuel out.

hondachic

Yes, that is where the washer goes. And you have to turn the ignition switch on and let it sit for a second, turn it off and repeat a few times. And you should barely hear your fuel pump engage, but it is very quiet so you may not hear it.
