Whenever I change my plugs, there's always a very small amount of oil on them. I'm not a whiz on engine internals, but you might take a leaking head gasket into consideration. Esp. if it's a 1gen.

ummm...i am not sure about it being a 1gen, the car is just a typical neon that i must say i hate it very much!!! lol we have had several ideas about what it could be but not exactly sure. as for the oil on the plugs there was a lot of it on the electroid part of the plugs, as i said earlier the first three cylinders was covered in oil. any suggestions would be great......thnx

on on spark plugs isnt good. The cars age is starting to catch up with it. The valve stem seals could be leaking, and most likely the rings are bad which is causing the "blow by" aka oil and gases to leak two and from cylinders. hope that helps.

Rookies :nono: Don't worry about it it is not serious. :) This is a common ailement with most Neons. Don't worry about it. Simple fix. Take off valve cover and replace the sparkplug boot rubber gaskets. Problem fixed. Just in case you don't know look inside the plug cylinder towards the top part of the valve cover there you will see a black rubber ring. That is where the oil is leaking from, trust me it is not internal. Unless you are smoking out of your tailpipe, which would indicate blown piston rings. :) Cheap $20 dollar fix.

I was thinking in cylinders as he was sayin, your assessment could be right also.

Hey tunga please clarify where if any oil was found on plug and and were you saw "exactly" oil where the valve cover meets the head, plug thread in or cylinder where piston is. does the car smoke at all?

the oil was on the electoid part of the plug and it was on the threads too......as for where the head is it on my car i have no clue i am female....lmao but it did smoke only once after we put the new plugs in, but after we put the new plugs in it only smoked that one time as far as before we changed them it didn't smoke at all either

yep it's the plug boot seals. Don't worry like I said my car has been doing that for 3 years and it won't hurt anything. Keep checking your plugs if the oil gets to be too much of a problem I just attach a cotton swab to the end of a wire coat hanger and clean the tubes out. The oil on the threads of the spark plug occurs when you take out the plugs. The oil in the tubes seep down into the cylinders and get on the threads too. Don't worry a little oil in the cylinders won't hurt anything because that is what your PVC valve does anyways. If it really bugs you you can get a new Haynes manual at a local bookstore and do it yourself or if you are not mechanically inclined take it to a local dealer and say you want the SPARK PLUG TUBE SEALS replaced because they are worn. They might try to scam you, I don't trust dealerships at all, just keep on insisting that you want the SPARK PLUG TUBE SEALS replaced and don't budge on that issue. It will fix your problem. That is if the slimey worms actually do the seal replacement. :disappoin I hate slimey dealers. PIGS!!!!! They always pick on the females too.

well your rings should be fine if you are not smoking a lot. Do the tube seals and then go from there. But the spark plug oiling thing is definitley the tube seals.
