96 Blazer cuts out and brake lights come on

I have read most of the threads here and have not found anyone with my specific problem. My 1996 Blazer 2wd with 4.3 Vortec has been extremely hard to start and has been cutting out while driving at highway speeds. It stalls sometimes as well. But here's the problem. Every time this happens the brake light and the anti-lock light both come on for a few seconds every time it cuts out. I have replaced plugs, wires, fuel filter, dist. cap and rotor, cleaned EGR valve and air intake valve. have checked wiring connections on the brake booster. the more work i do on it the worse it gets. It acts as if there is a fuel system problem, but the lights come on indicating a possible electrical problem. If anyone has any similar problems or a solution, I would be very grateful.

I have a 95 blazer. I put neons on it and mounted the transformer for them next to the computer. It did the same thing until I moved the transformer. Now it runs fine

I'm not sure what "neons" are. I should say that I have no clue what they are.....lol, and ....if you don't mind.....where exactly is the computer?......thanks

I had the same thing happen to my 1996 blazer. The first thing I found bad was the fuel pump. It was not holding the pressure at the amount needed. Be prepared to pay approx. $650.00 for the fuel pump and another $200.00 for installation. The fuel pump for the 1996 is very expensive as it's in the gas tank and the whole assembly should be replaced.

After replacing the fuel pump I still would get the truck shutting down but be able to restart right away most of the time. It was finally found at a chevy dealer to be the ignition module in the steering column and the cost was approx. $400.00

hope this helps

Neons are lights that shine on the ground under vehicles. It was the computer on the left side if you are standing in front of your truck facing it. There are two big plugs with alot of wire going into it.
