Aftermarket Pulleys...Y2kNeon 08-15-2004, 06:39 PM Anybody know who makes lightweight accessory pulleys for the 2gen Neon? I'm NOT talking about crank underdrive pulleys, I'm referring to the other pulleys. AEM makes em for the Stratus, but I didn't see any for the ol' Neon. Anyway, if anyone knows, pass the word =) dj4monie 08-19-2004, 04:22 AM What's wrong with the crank pulley?? Y2kNeon 08-20-2004, 08:01 PM I've read too much about harmonic dampeners, torsional vibration, and fried bearings to buy an underdrive pulley. I was just wondering if there are pulley sets out there, not just crank pulleys =). What do you guys think of underdrive pulleys? Good/bad? dj4monie 08-21-2004, 12:08 AM Not that I know of, and the crank pulley on the Neon is just that a pulley, not a mass damper like on Hondas. Plenty of Neons sport an underdrive pulley with no affect on bearing or balance of the internal parts of the engine. In fact, Chrysler has lighten the crank pulley over the car's production. The pulley on '95-'96 cars is heavier than ones installed on '97-99 model Neons. So you biggest gains from a pulley come on '95-'96 Neon. There is nothing to fear with pullies on a Neon. Y2kNeon 08-23-2004, 02:24 PM Hmm. Thanks for the reply. I did notice that most of the articles I read concerning damage to the engine were about BMW's and other models of cars. Maybe I'll get one after all :iceslolan dj4monie 08-23-2004, 02:47 PM Its not quite that cut and dry for 2nd (PL2000) Neon owners. 2000-2001 seems to be the only model that can "handle" an underdrive pulley. On '02 and up Neons, the crank hall effect sensor seems to not like the pulley so much and throws out a mis-fire code. If you can live with the CEL, then by all means go ahead and put one on your '02 and up Neon. You have nothing to worry about. Y2kNeon 08-23-2004, 03:27 PM My biggest worry is on any possible long term problems or damage, since my beloved 2000 is my only car, and it's being shared with the woman =D I hear that the pulleys can dim the headlights slightly, and they slow down the alternator, correct? That's not too big of a deal since I drive 10 minutes on the freeway to work every day. Hmm.....so the pulley does NOT act as a harmonic dampener or counterweight for the crankshaft? My biggest worry was causing excessive wear or damage to engine internals. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
