Transmission shifts hard from 1-2 and 2-3 most of the time, other than that works fine. C4 with OD button on shifter. Do you think it could be powertrain control module. Or a sensor. Have changed fluid and torque converter has drain plug to get all fluid out

Well it's definately NOT a C4 with od. It is one of three, E4OD (E-250/350), AOD, or AODE. Since you have a TCS on the shifter, that narrows it to an E4OD or AODE (4R70W).
I would guess it's a E150 with a 300-6 or a 302. Most likely the accumulator springs are broken, this is common, and EASY to fix. If you can cnhange ATF, and know enough to drain the T/C, then this is a piece of cake.
Check out Tech Section at www.tccoa.com for the specifics on how-to, and what to look for. As I recall, the parts you need total under $50.

ModMech, Randy; I have the EXACT same problem with a '93 E-150 351 V-8. This is not (I believe) an electronic transmission. I there an easy way to tell? I do have the OD button.
ModMech; what is a TCS, and how do you know Randy has one?
I believe it to be an AOD. I have changed the fluid and filter.
I have one group of wires that plug into the drivers side right by the shifter. Is this the neutral indicator?
I have another group of wires on the passenger side toward the rear. It is covered with a little plate that says "do not remove". Is this the output speed sensor?
The problem is intermittent. It occurs maybe 30% of the time, and by and large; only in hot weather. Once the weather cools, no problem.
Would the accumulator springs lead to an intermittent problem? Like Randy, I was thinking speed sensor, or neutral indicator sensor, but would gladly change a couple of springs if indicated.
Thanks a bunch;
Jonny

OK, I have found out by deciphering the pan gasket that I have an E4OD.
I have narrowed my choices to the TLPS, or the accumulator springs.
Is the TLPS a simple change? Any adjustments or diabolical traps?
The accumulator springs do not sound difficult, but I have been unable to find a step-by-step "how to". I am not sure even where the accumulators live, and which is the 1-2.
Anyone know where an on-line parts diagram might be?
Any help would be most appreciated.
