I just bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, nice looking. I got home from picking it up and a puddle of antifreeze appeared under the Jeep. It looks like it is coming from the overflow. What is causing this? Also, I am noticing some gurgling noises coming from the tranny, just at a stand still. Is this stuff fixable at a resonable cost, or am I in for a ride? Any help would be appreciated.

Ours does that from time to time – mostly after a long trip.
Usually when the reservoir is at max [when cold].
I do not know why it ‘pukes’ every once and a while but
keeping the reservoir just above MIN [below MAX] prevents this.
I was going to replace the radiator cap.
I was thinking the spring cannot hold back the pressure when the engine stops.

You should not have an antifreeze drip under the vehicle.

Check your recovery tank (overflow) level like dIY says. and all the connections between it and the rad.

A new rad cap is not an expensive investment so go for it if the black rubber gasket has a permenant groove in it from the filler neck, though it probably won't make a lot of difference.

Make sure the antifreeze level is to the top of the rad filler neck when you put the cap on.

Check under the water pump for any leakage from the seal weep hole. That is a likely source.

You can also get a large cardboard to slide under the vehicle when it is parked at home. That will give you a better indication of the source of the drip if it is from another place (like a head gasket(ouch)).

good luck

Thanks, it ended up not being the overflow. It was the actual radiator, it looked like it was just its time to go. I replaced it and it seems to be fine.

This experience will help for when you have to replace the water pump.
