Engine won't turn over

I have a 2002 Laredo with a V8, 4WD, etc. After it has warmed up, shut down, and tried to start it will not crank over. All of the dash lights appear to be at full brightness, radio works, nothing strange except engine will not turn over. Almost acts like a dead battery except it is a brand new one. Cables were cleaned. If I slam (and I mean SLAM) down the brake pedal most of the time it will crank over and start up. The last 2 times it took 20 minutes each time.

Help! Dealer does not know what the issue is. I am getting frustrated since this has happened on vacations.

P.S.: Sorry for the screen name, but my daughter has had ISSUES with her Talon.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not a mechanic but I believe if you have a bad neutral safety switch(or loose wire) the vehicle thinks its' not in park and thus won't turn over.

try pushing and holding the shifter as far up into park as it can go and crank the engine. it works for my 93 GC. i got to get the NSS cleaned out on mine to. its a do-it-yourself job that takes roughly 2 hours and very little tools

Thanks for the replies! It looks like a switch is bad. The ignition thinks it is still in gear and won't start. The part is being replaced and I should get it back on Wednesday.

Thanks again.
