94 Grand Am very high idle and fan onYosteroo 08-08-2004, 03:29 PM Hi everyone, I have a 94 Grand Am with a 2.3L and 121k miles. A few days ago I was headed home and the engine suddenly started revving as if I was stepping on the accelerator. It also made the car very difficult to stop witout throwing it into neutral. Next day I started it and it was idling at what I would guess is 2000 to 2500 rpm and the electric fan was on. Previously, the fan would only come on with the A/C or if the engine temp got too hot. Now the fan stays on and the engine continues to idle at this high rate regardless of anything I've tried. The Service engine light is on intermittently with this problem, but even when the light goes out the problem remains. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any ideas as to what I should check? I have looked around the forum and I saw some similar posts, but i didn't find any with this exact problem. I appreciate any insight into this problem. Thanks. blackmaxgic 08-10-2004, 10:33 PM I just had the same exact problem and it was hard to diagnose as it was intermitent and never showed itself at the garage. I had to bring it into the repair shop while it was revving high to show them the problem. Turns out to be the idle control motor valve. A $215 repair for me. Good luck.
