:banghead: I baught this truck in hopes of having minor repair work to do, but after towing it home I find out that the previous owners had already put a new battery in along with wires and a starter. When I try turning it over I only hear clicking from the starter, (i believe) but cant get farther than that. has gas and spark -- i replaced cap rotor and wires and plugs witch all seem to have normal wear. :banghead:

did you take the battery out and give it a full charge?

Check engine and starter grounds too.

How do you know it is seized?

If it is for sure, take it back to the seller and demand your money back.

Once time with a 85 4.3 carburated, the motor looks seized after a tune service, I tried turn the engine using the crank pulley screw (15mm), with ratch; no way, then deseperatly come off all spark plugs and tried with engine starts ( ignition coil disconnected) and turns ok; I think that problem should be due a some valve position, another idea is put oil trough saprk plug holes before turn motor. Good luck.

the starter will not turn the fly wheel and niether can i, when i tried to push start the truck the rear wheels lock up when the clutch is engaged so nothing turns over.

If you think the motor is seized, try removing the plugs and spraying a Rust Penetrant such as PB Blaster into the spark plug holes. Let sit for an hour, and then add about a tablespoon of oil to each cylinder. Let sit overnight, and try to move the flywheel the next day. I would highly suggest getting a flywheel turning tool, as it will give you much more leverage than just a simple wrench on a torque converter bolts. You also run the risk of breaking a bolt head off. Move the flywheel back and forth until you can move the engine 360 degrees. Turn until the resistance is almost none. Then just to see if the motor moves, try to start it then. If it turns with the starter, replace plugs and try to start it. Just make sure that the engine does have oil in it. If you get no oil pressure within about 10 seconds after startup(assuming it does start), shut it down, and go from there. Hope this helps -Chris

The only time that a starter should click is if there isn't enough battery power, and if there is a full charge and the cap and rotor and distributor are intact, and the coil packs, then the motor is more likely siezed.

no, the guy played dumb, said it might need a starter or something he wasnt sure. I have tried calling him back but have yet to get a person on the other side, and ofcoarse no return phone calls.

the guy said it ran great and they had parked it a year ago, but they had no clue what the problem was, and that they hadnt doen any work, both of which were untrue.

Have it towed and parked in front of his house untill he refunds your money.

If you are determined to get it running, I would suggest you start by removing all of the spark plugs and squirting a small amount of diesel fuel into each hole and let it sit for a day or so, then slowly try to turn the crank shaft a little at a time, back and forth. If it breaks loose and turns freely, be sure to drain and change the oil before starting. If you do get it start, be prepared for future repairs up to and including scored cylinder walls, worn piston rings and pistons, bearings etc. not to mention poor performance. Good luck!
