I have a 1997 geo metro lsi that I keep having problems with the lights. If I turn on my dashlights the headlights go out both dims and brights. if i turn off the dashlight then I have head lights. Last week I had problems with the dims not being on and I took it to a garage and he said it was a loose connection under the dash at the computer. Could this be the problem again????????

Generally headlamp issues are caused by a faulty wiring harness from the combination switch (the part with the levers that come out of the steering column) to the fuse panel. A faulty ground in the fuse panel causes the wiring harness to burn, and breaks the headlamp circuit.

I don't know if metros are prone to this, but sometimes the headlight switch itsself can go bad and short internally, or maybe the the dash light switch? Check the ground though.

Bekay:
I would recommend you take out your lights switch to try it directly from its wires.

Before that, and just in case, think about a short caused by the daylight switch (located in your handbrake). My feeling is a wrong +/- connection.

Hope this would help you.

MC.

we think it's the plug under the dash that is bad. It has a loose connection there.
