I am almost certain, that, i will be closing the deal on this 1994 Dodge Xplorer Camper/Van RV . It has a 360 cid motor, OD transmission, 61,000 miles, and gvwr is 8450 lbs. (I dont know if its a 250 model van or ???) .

Questions :

1. Would this normally have Dodges Heavy Duty Auto Trans..and if so, which is it ?

2. What rear end unit would this have ? (im almost certain the gears are 4:11 from doing a search).

3. What is the reliability like ? What were any major sources of problems ?

4. Potential rust areas on this van ?

5. ANy other info you can offer up.

I thank you for your time and help,

Dave

Had the tranny problems done. Lost over drive seems dodge put a small check valve in the tranny and it plugs up. fried mine. Only other prob i've had is fan clutch and freeze plugs. Pretty stout. lots of squeeks.
250 318 auto with the mark V package.

Trans should be A727A if it a 3 speed auto, or an A518A if its a 4 speed auto.

Most likely a 9 1/4 rear

3. What is the reliability like ? What were any major sources of problems ?
Reliability has never been an issue. I bought 3 Dodges, and each of them was extremely reliable. Do oil changes every 3000 miles without fail, and keep all your filters clean. Change trans fluid and filter every 30 to 40,000 miles. A/C can be a problem.

4. Potential rust areas on this van ?
I've owned 3 Dodge vans each for more than 10 years, never had one rust out. But I have seen vans with rust behind wheel wells, and below doors.

5. ANy other info you can offer up.
I sold my Dodge vans one at 186,000 miles, one at 202,000 miles, and my 86 I sold last year with 301,000. Never replaced and engine or a maor compunant, and all three vans are still on the road withtheir original engines and transmissions. I'm still sorry I sold any of them. My FOrd van has 125,000 miles on it, and I'm not sure how many more I will get out of it.
I thank you for your time and help,

Dave

I hope this helps a little...
