I am looking to buy a new engine and trans. for a 94 SL2 DOHC. What engines will fit without major changes? What about a 2001 DOHC from SC2? They are both VIN 7.

93 and 94 would be the easyist, all other years are possible, but with some work. transmissions can be a problem to mix and match.

2001 would require at least swaping the manifolds, PCM and wiring harness.

I was wanting to swap because mine is 11 yrs old, I'm replacing part by part (water pump, cat. converter, etc.), and I found a 2001 engine on Ebay for $400 w/ only 11k miles.

i know what you mean, i own a 94 myself, and i've spend the majority of the last year working on it (plus i learn alot and it helps me get my mind of things). i prefur my engine over the later ones because it can take more abuse(and i give it alot) and its a little easier to tune and troubleshoot(unless you own a OBD2 scanner) but maybe thats just me being young and stupid.

in short, i say since you just dropped a bit of money in there, drive it to the ground, you'll find another $400 engine. (by the way you'll ether have to swap out that new cat or weld it and drill and tap a spot for the new second O2 sensor
