i just got a a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and I need help with a few things, i'm hoping someone here will be able to help me.

1) When i try to open the sunroof, i can hear something mechanical working if i try to close it, but when i try to open it, nothing happens.... any way to fix? :eek7:

2) On the panel at the bottom that has the date and time and so on... i can't seem to figure out how to set the date and time on it... also... the picture of the car has the back lit, even when the hatch is closed... fixable? :sly:

3) I heard there was a recall on this model regarding the inside quarter panel... errr.. the inside of the rear door, the leather is peeling off, was wondering how i could get that back on... glue?

Thanks in advance! :)

I also have a 96 GC Limited - No sun roof though - So I can't help you there.

(2) on the panel if you press and hold the set button the time (hr) will begin to flash. Pres the "Set" button and the hr. will count up to the desired time then press "Select" to go to minutes, and so forth until you have set everything. The back hatch issue, this sounds like the door switch on the hatch in not functioning correctly. Also, if you have the rear split style door like I do Main Hatch/then the rear glass opens independiantly check the switch inside the rear glass latch.

As far as recalls I am not aware of any but if I find out about them I will post the info. Good luck on everything else I hope this helps.

I'm not sure about your sun roof - never run into that and my JGC doesn't have one either.

2000_gs has some good ideas about the rear hatch thing on the console display. some sensor adjustment probably or else a bad connection in a connector.

your rear door trim is the subject of a service bullitin. check the link below.

and

These are two updates to the original that I remember seeing- there is an adhesive that was recommended at one time. - I've posted it in another thread before but I can't find it and I have it in my palm pilot - that went dead while I was on holidays.........

I'll get it tonite and post it then .. sorry.

The home page for that link has more service bullitins for Jeeps - check it out.

the adhesive is RTV 157 - a silicone type product. The only source I've found for it is in well stocked electronic stores/suppliers.

Whats the difference between the RTV 157 adhesive and some other RTV Silicone?

looks to me like the main difference is in the color.

the RTV 157 is a gray color like the pads on the door panels....sure wouldnt want to use the red or blue stuff.

that is the only difference i could find.

there is a whole list of similar RTV with different numbers at this website. just different colors. (look only at the one part adhesives in the left column).
