4x4 Issues

I have a 2001 TrailBlazer that i just bought 3 weeks ago. I took it down to the beach and nearly got stuck twice because the 4x4 wouldn't engage. Since it is a certified used vehicle, all the repair work SO FAR has been free.

Now after 4 trips to the dealership, the 4x4 seems to work intermittently. They replaced a vaccum switch and some wiring that got destroyed by a leaky battery so far.

So far, I have noticed that it seems to like shifting into 4HI while moving and not standing still. Does anyone else have this problem or have any knowledge about it?

Also, sometimes it takes a quite few seconds to shift into 4HI/4LO, while my 1997 Blazer shifted pretty much instantly. Is this common with the newer blazers(the blazers after the 1998 redesign?)?.

Thanks!!

you have to be in neutral to shift to 4LO.

Also, don't shift to or from 4x4 when the engine is accelerating.

I have an 01 Trailblazer also. 4x4 was acting that way until it wouldnt come out of 4 wheel drive. I found out the encoder motor which changes the transfer case from 2hi to 4hi and 4Lo was the culprit. My after amrket warranty didnt cover the motor because it was an external unit to the drivetrain. So if your not covered, dont let them do it. They want your first born son for something that cost $200 and takes 30 min to put in yourself. Good luck
