how do I take the the govenor off ?darkcavy 08-02-2004, 09:25 PM I have a 2004 2.2 cavalier.my fuel shuts off at 110 mph. I have asked everyone how to disable this feature and no one knows how to do that. some one told me to put a toggle switch on the line from the trany but that doesn't seem like it would help.anyone know how to do this???? jayson716 08-02-2004, 09:31 PM Send out your Pcu to have it reprogramed. not sure where to do that or buy the tool to reprogram it yourself but that is big buxs. jayson716 08-02-2004, 09:32 PM and the reason for the govener is they rate it on your tires. so be carfull Mangoamerican 08-03-2004, 01:40 PM I heard something about disabling ssr... thats all i know haha.. oh yeah, and its not mph, its gear speed that the system governs. 01Cavy 08-03-2004, 05:29 PM Unless youve got some mods on the car (lowered, new tires, etc, etc, etc) I woulnd't reccromend you taking the gov. off. If you do have these mods you better have proof (pictures)! Thats about the only way you will find out how on these forums! lowS-DIME 08-04-2004, 03:13 AM ok, i tell you, but first of all i wont be held resposible for anything you do. Second of all, they are right, do not go faster than the limiter if you have stock wheels and tires... at least tires... there is a reason for the limiter (besides the fact that you are probly breaking the law if you ever get to that point). There are a few ways i know of. First one is the easy and probly safest way to do it, have you chip reflashed. Second, and this works on s-10s, i dont know about the cavalier, right as you get to the limiter, but havent got to it yet, you let off the gas and then press it again, i guess it tricks the computer and you can get past the limiter (i cant garentee that this works). The other way is dangerous. You put a switch inline with one of the wires going to the sensor on your tranny. When the switch is on the "on" position, everyhting works normaly, when you flip it, the speedometer will drop to "0" and you can go as fast as you want. DO NOT DO THIS WITH THE AUTOMATICS, if you cut the wire to the automatics, i beleive they wont shift and that isnt any good. Again, I wont be held responsible for your stupid mistakes. I tell you this becuz knowledge is power. If you are not racing in a sactioned race track or something to that effect, leave your cars limiter alone. I would recommend NOT doing this mod and just having you chip reflashed. Later Mangoamerican 08-04-2004, 03:34 AM --I tell you this becuz knowledge is power. If you are not racing in a sactioned race track or something to that effect, leave your cars limiter alone. I would recommend NOT doing this mod and just having you chip reflashed. Later since knowledge is power and such... would you mind explaining what exactly you are cutting, and how it is making your car go faster than designed? thank you lowS-DIME 08-04-2004, 03:44 AM alright, heres the deal dood, ok, on my s-10 i am governed at 94 mph, i can go about 115 after the wire is cut... Im not sure how fast a cav will go. The wire go's to a plug in your tranny (im assuming the tranny in the cav have the same plugs as the s-10 trannys) and is a sensor that tells the computer how fast the gears r goin and then it gos to your speedo... when you cut the wire the computer cant read the sensor and then yeah, im sure you understand why it works from there... Sight N Sound 08-04-2004, 08:20 AM umm unless you have suspension and break upgrades this is pointless. The stock breaks can not handle speeds high that that SAFLY. Just post your name and wher eyou live so I can stay clear or kick your ass when you hurt some one. and don;t tell me its for the track becuase unless you are putting about 300hp at the wheels you'll never hit 110 by the end sof the 1/4 so basically you have no need for this. Not being a smart ass but its a major safty issue. Mangoamerican 08-04-2004, 01:25 PM thanks for the info bro, ill have to check it out and see what exactly happens.. maybe i should get new tires and brakes :-/ heh KustmAce 08-04-2004, 03:24 PM Maybe you should spend your money on something more worthwhile, though the suspension would be good anyway. 01Cavy 08-04-2004, 07:07 PM Why would you take the gov off without mods to make it worth while? Is it worth the risk of a ticket...or worse an accident? jayson716 08-04-2004, 08:36 PM very true and well i have some1 in my team that does know about the switch and well... the 5 speed supercharged will get up to about 128 in the 1/4 mile it has many other mods aswell... i can not list. lowS-DIME 08-05-2004, 12:29 AM umm unless you have suspension and break upgrades this is pointless. Not being a smart ass but its a major safty issue. ok, i said it is for the track.... i would hope if you are going to the track you have more than a stock car... and the guy right above me just proved a good point... a super/turbocharged cav can exceed the 110 mph mark.... "Not trying to be a smart ass, just dont be so arrogant" -Jayson- 08-05-2004, 12:38 AM you do know that the VSS mod is illegal to do and will instantly as soon as you flick that switch give your car a 0 dollar resale value? With one flick of a switch you make your car worthless? Its called odometer fraud if you ever try to sell the car with actual milage. Mangoamerican 08-05-2004, 12:41 AM knowledge is power.. no need to be an asshole about it! lowS-DIME 08-05-2004, 01:01 AM knowledge is power.. no need to be an asshole about it! oh dude i have no issue with you at all.... but "sight and sound" or whatever was being an ass so i replied like that... his opion is it is a stupid thing to do... IMO you have the right to do whatever you want to your vehicle... Mangoamerican 08-05-2004, 01:04 AM so i was wondering, what rpm does the cavy limit itself at? i dont have a tach.. and yes i have a manual lowS-DIME 08-05-2004, 01:08 AM weird.. well here is the deal (again, assuming cavs are the same as teh s-10's.... which they r pretty close) you can rev you engine as high as you want. There is no rev limiter. When you rev ur engine to a certain point and it sounds like you hit a limiter, you are acully floating the valves.... that is when the engine has got nothing left and kinda "dies" in a sense... it isnt a very good habit to get into, becuz it isd hard on the engine. You probly lost peak hp 1k rpms or more before that... so dont puch ur engine that far (or do it... its ur vehicle :) ). Mangoamerican 08-05-2004, 01:10 AM no, thats not what i meant, what i meant to ask was.... in fifth gear, what is the maximum rpm's you can have at ~108 lowS-DIME 08-05-2004, 01:11 AM that i cant answer... it depends on your gears... at 94 mph in 5 im at like 4k or something (when im going that fast im not lookin at the tach) Three_Fingers 08-05-2004, 12:02 PM Take heed. -Jayson- speaks words of wisdom.. Sure, for a ton of money and a lotta aggro-you too can make a 4 cylinder Cavalier do the same speeds that a tired, old '81 Caprice V8 with a million miles on it is capable of reaching without spending a dime. Is it really worth it? Caprices are a dime a dozen.. darkcavy 08-05-2004, 09:46 PM If I needed Another mother I would have asked. At this point I have on oreder a haun 2.2 echo tech with a turbo charger. If my gas is going to shut off @ 108 I don't need to spend the 3500.00$ now do I? I aked because some friends refered me to this sight and said there were some really smart people on here.Yet all I have found are screwed up mother figures. If I were to caome to your town no one would get hurt I am responsible. Also in order to "kick my ass" first youd have to catch my ass... lowS-DIME 08-05-2004, 11:16 PM hey, i helped you out man.... that is the easiset and sheapest way to get rid of the govenor... but i would jsut pay for a reflash... in a reflash you can get rid of the govenor and also get more HP and torque out of ur engine.... if you spent the money on that engine then spend the money on a reflash... darkcavy 08-06-2004, 11:07 PM Ok sorry about the critisism.Where do I go to get a reflash done? Also about how much$$$ is it going to cost me? This is a new thing to me and I have a desire for speed. Not dangerously but the power gives me wood.I had a camaro but got married and had a child so goodbye camaro hello hobby car. any help would be apreciated.also wheres a good place to buy a body kit? I have looked all over for a good one but can only find the J-body kit and its always 999.99$Any advice? jayson716 08-06-2004, 11:27 PM Wings west has a pretty good body kit. well i like it and i have the frong large mouth bumber and i have ordered the rest of the kit. -Jayson- 08-07-2004, 12:17 AM their are a ton of smart people on this forum, and they are smart enough to know when not to tell speed demons how to turn their car into a 1 ton bomb on wheels. As far as i know their is no reflash program that will give you more HP for the OBDII. And finding someone who can reflash it for you is going to be tough cause no dealer will do it. If you really must know how to do it, im gonna only tell you the expensive way. The venom control module or the Jet Performance module, MSD performance module, all of those things will remove the speed limiter. But they run around 300-400 bucks and other than removing the speed limit will do little more. IF you want to be stupid and go buy one of them go ahead. Just make sure you have Z rated tires and some stronger brakes cause those stock ones will fall apart at higher speeds, not to mention your suspension will cause your steering to become extremly lose. Just think about your wife, kids, family, and everyone else on the road before you decide to test the car with no speed limit. lowS-DIME 08-07-2004, 03:20 AM ^^^speaks words of wisdom^^^ buit as far as i know... the 2.2 they put into s10s was the same as the one in the cavaliers and i KNOW you can have your computer reflashed on the s10, so i assume you can do it on the cavalier also. The jet chips and the hypertech programmers r also an easy route to take... KustmAce 08-08-2004, 07:08 PM Read this if you want to take your governer off (http://forums.domestictunerz.com/index.php?showtopic=11524&st=0) jayson716 08-08-2004, 07:49 PM damn.... that car is messed up and i have had an experience like that i wreck at over 140 in a camaro I was lucky to survive so now i do it for show and no go... well has some go Sight N Sound 08-11-2004, 01:21 AM I have a 2004 2.2 cavalier.my fuel shuts off at 110 mph. Agreed. IF you have a hahn Turbo coming put it on the car and see what it does first. If you are going faster than 108 in th 1/4 then worry about it. If you want to do it the correct way you end up giveing the who engine a stand alone system instead of ghetto rigging a "switch". The problem with a lot of this info is its given out to people who have no need for it and they end up in a little metal ball like previously posted. One of the Guys in my club has a 2.2 eco stage 2 vortech from RSM and he doesn't even needit yet. Again read the first post and there is nothing about "at the track". DemonSpeeding 09-09-2004, 03:40 AM I saw this a couple days back, the evap vent stuck open on my 2004, so i had to have the valve replaced. (still under warrenty) so had to take it back, meant i wasnt able to test this, i have hit the cut off several time myself and wondered what exact rpm i was at, but i was watching the road at the time and not knowing i was at the cut off point. My 96 cut off at about the 108 mark. it is waiting a replacement 2.2 at the moment. the 2004 cuts off closer to 105. i by no means encourage anyone, and will not be held responsible for anyone testing this data. to risk speeds as said earlier is unwise with unmodified vehicle / poor speed rated tires. whether on the track or street. it is also unwise to try it with out first hand experience on a track learning and driving at those speeds. the biggest problem i have with the govener is that not only is there loss of accerlation, but lose of brakes, and power steering, that is way to dangerous in itself. i think it is insane to rob that from someone at that speed, tire rating or not. that said and out of the way, the 96 couldnt handle suspension wise well above 90, swayed far to much. the 2004 rides unbelievable at 100, there is no sway, no vibration, and it hugs the road. most of the time, i can cruise at 90 and not realize. I have drivin cop cars and pursuit vehicle that were larger that shook more at 70. most of this is approximate, and mango this is for you as i said i wondered myself. ~ 65 mph - ~2500 rpms the speed limit on the interstate here ~ 90 mph - ~3300 rpms ~ 105 mph - ~4000 / 4100 rpms the problem is that the highest hp comes round 4000 / 4200, and its like an instant boost from 100 to the cut off. Sight N Sound 09-09-2004, 04:17 AM the biggest problem i have with the govener is that not only is there loss of accerlation, but lose of brakes, and power steering, that is way to dangerous in itself. i think it is insane to rob that from someone at that speed, tire rating or not. Not to start a battle or anything but the govener does not affect your brakes or power steering. All it does it cut the fuel to the engine above an idle. The engine still runs thus all your equipment still works. I have hit the govenor a few times myself to boot and never had a problem with those systems listed. either you have issues with your systems or as far as braking is concerned your OEM rotor were so hot from trying to brake at that speed they were failing. But I can garuntee it doesn't make you loose your braking and steering systems. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
