I have a 98 with 70,000 miles and it has a 3.8L V6 engine. When I am driving down the road the engine will die. I usually can put it in neutral as I am coasting and it will start again. But sometimes I have to put it in park and let the car sit for a minute and then it will start. The only other prolem is sometime it will turn over but not start. It act like its not getting enough gas. But this doesn't explain the car dieng as I drive down the road. I am getting a new fuel filter and I have switched gas in case its some type of a vapor lock problem. Is there anythign else it could be?

Thanks for you time and comments.

Could be the fuel pump....I had an '86 Celebrity that had a fuel pump issue that caused similar symptoms....actually went through several Delco replacements that also failed...finally talked the mechanic into a non-GM part......never had that problem again after that!

Dig through the archives and read.

Some have seen this problem caused by the crank position sensor. Others have seen it caused by a bad ignition switch (the thing you stick the key into). Others by fuel pressure problems. I suggest you read all the symptoms and then try and figure out which one is yours. The CPS usually sets a code. The fuel pressure problems sometimes set a code. The ignition switch problem does not set a code as the ECM thinks that is normal operation.

Good luck.
