96 JGC Start and Charging Problem

Would like to see if someone can help on this. I have a 1996 JGC 4x4 V8.
About a week ago, the engine would spin but no fire, shop checked Power Fuse Box found fuse in position 19 or 20 blown (20amp mini)....they performed some sort of circuit breaker procedure, Jeep ran fine. Took it to dealer to have them scan PCM and check for computer flash update. They said computer was fine. Jeep has been doing fine till yesterday. Had a lady pullout in front of me in a parking lot, wasnt going fast but had to hit the brakes hard. The engine stalled, would spin over but no fire. Checked that 20amp fuse under the hood, it was blown, replaced it, jeep started up no problems. About 5 minutes later driving down the road, my CHECK GAGES LIGHT, not Check Engine, came on , got the audible ding, and my service panel display flashed check battery, I noticed the Alt. gage was dead on zero. Got home, shutdown, restarted and Alt. gage moved up to about 9 volts, drove down the street and it,dropped to zero again, then back up to about 12 volts. At idle, with all accessories on,AC, headlights fan on high, everything, I dont notice any light dimming, or fan speed reduction etc. Is there a connection between the hard stop/fuse blowing episode and the apparent alternator failure or just coincidence? And why would the hard braking cause the engine to shutdown and the fuse to blow. Also, I tried the code check procedure on/off three times deal, check engine light illuminates but does not flash at all just stays on steady. Any ideas on that? I understand that if everything is OK it should flash a 55, have I got that right?
Would appreciate any info you might have on this.
Thanx,
Dave in Atlanta
